Related: About this forumIf you're polling at 0% or 1% or 2%, wouldn't you get out of the race at this point?
Just to save yourself, and your family, the embarrassment?

Look at how many of them STILL think we should have stayed in Vietnam(even though some of them were in preschool when the troops came home).

I imagine, too, that hope springs eternal for them -- they hope the frontrunners will stumble and they may gain in the wake. Look at Fiorina: Went from second team debate squad to first tier based on nothing more than nothing, a "perception" that she had done better than those she wasn't even on the stage with and never got to confront.
And too, I suspect that each of them hopes to influence the ongoing debate and draw the conversation towards their favored ideas.
Finally, some may be trying to position themselves for either a VP pick, a spot in the new administration (hoping against hope a Republican may win), or trying to place themselves in a manner that they'll have a better shot next election.
Or it could just be pure ego and delusion. Take your pick.

And if nothing else, well, you got to be on TV.

(1,238 posts)If you're at horrible favorability, are not raising money, and aren't really bringing something special to the table that's already there then you should probably leave the race.
In my view, that would mean Chafee should get out of the race on the Democratic side, and Gilmore, Pataki, Graham and probably Perry on the Republican side.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
