Related: About this forumGrover Norquist hopes congress will impeach Obama...
http://news.yahoo.com/impeach-obama-194325174.htmlNORQUIST: Obama can sit there and let all the tax [cuts] lapse, and then the Republicans will have enough votes in the Senate in 2014 to impeach. The last year, hes gone into this huddle where he does everything by executive order. Hes made no effort to work with Congress.
Oddly enough, the comments to this article are pretty level-headed...which is unusual for Yahoo! readers.
And why are Republicans signing pledges to Norquist?

In my magical world, there would be no (R)s, Blue Dogs or DLC Democrats. But I don't believe in magical thinking. We have to get rid of them the hard way and be patient while doing so.

(13,081 posts)Even though most people have never heard of him. Although far to the right of Reagan, he sees himself as Saint Raygun's torchbearer. He holds a weekly lunch meeting that is a veritable who's who of up and coming Republicans, and conservatives don't get anywhere in DC without his blessing. He makes everyone running for office sign a "tax pledge" that would make Ayn Rand proud, and it gets a little crazier every year. I think it's fair to say that he both shapes and reflects the Republican party's looniness as any given moment.

(6,891 posts)republic, permitting the legally agreed upon expiration of a tax reduction meets the constitutional impeachment standards of a "high crime or misdemeanor". You could make a better case for suggesting that any attempt to use the Constitution as a vehicle to remove a sitting president for political expediency is an act of treason.

(23,796 posts)That's a high crime in Grover's little ledger book.
Mind you, it's not actually a crime, as in "not against the law." As a matter of fact, the tax cut is a law that expires, so this would be Obama honoring the actual law. But it snaps Grover's law in half, and that's ground for impeachment for him. I guess. Who knows what that idiot is thinking?

(4,192 posts)Repugs in congress have spent the last 4 years doing everything they can to block *any* and *every* measure put out by Obama and then he says shit like this. Norquist is going to learn the hard way one of these days that not everyone is as stupid as the republicans are. He can scheme all he wants on how to manipulate people, but he's been exposed as a liar and a greedy son-of-a-bitch. He better stay close to his ivory tower because that shit won't fly on the streets.

(16,984 posts)That seems to be the new GOP mantra. It's the same old technique: Control the image of the opponent by stating something that is obviously untrue and/or calling into question his/her service and accomplishments. We've seen this movie many times.
So now the rational, fair-minded, consensus-building Obama is being depicted as a stiff-necked, prickly extremist. Expect this to ratchet up throughout the year, and don't be surprised if the media starts taking this as fact. That too is something we've seen a lot in recent years.

(8,053 posts)why would any american pledge allegiance to anything other than the flag and the republic for which it stands? One nation; indivisible with liberty and justice for all.
That's what I have a problem with when it comes to office holders throwing in with 'pledges' to Norquist. Their first, lawfully sworn duty
is to all of the people for whom they are elected to represent THEIR interests in this government, not to one of its citizens who doesn't want to pay his fair share of taxes.
How would norquist know what was going on in meetings and negotiations Obama is having with whatever party? It's not like
he's in the room--anything he hears, he hears second hand, a.k.a. hearsay, inadmissible. Clearly, he doesn't take seriously
the various polling numbers which have come out recently showing the nation's total disgust with republicans of every level of
government. Wisconsin must have gotten past him.
It is insane and proof of living in an alternative universe to say that Obama has made no effort to work with congress. That has
been the main problem! He goes too far for consensus, when norquist and all those of his stripe know that their mission was
to frustrate the president implementing his policies. It has been admitted to as much by far too many.

(24,399 posts)then that means that voters support HIS position, not Norquist's, so Norquist is hyper-delusional if he thinks that people are going to support impeachment of Obama over letting the Bush Tax Cuts expire. Disagreeing with Grover Norquist over tax policy is NOT an impeachable offense. I also somewhat doubt if people are going to vote Obama in for a second term, as well as a hyper-obstructionist Republican Congress unless they're really dumb and don't want Obama to do anything.
