... that the GOP labeled Obama as a socialist in order to discredit him. Bernie has declared himself as such, thereby "discrediting" himself in the eyes of many voters.

In Obama's case, the Republicans "tried to pull the 'socialist B.S." In BS's case, they don't have to "pull" anything - he's already there, and proudly so.

You can argue all night that it "doesn't matter", that "people don't view 'socialism' as a negative anymore", etc. But the fact is that many of them - rightly or wrongly - still do.

BS has all kinds of things going against him - the "socialist" label is just one among many.

... the fact remains that a large portion of the voting citizenry doesn't think so.

While I might personally believe that tokin' on a nightly basis is a great idea, I wouldn't run for president touting the concept.
