If you believe the polls, it would appear there is one big factor standing in the way of Mitt Romney being elected president: Americans dont like him as well as they do Barack Obama.
That was confirmed again in a new USA Today-Gallup survey in which respondents gave Romney higher marks on the economic issues, which voters say they care most about this year. But President Obama crushed Romney 60 percent to 30 percent on the question of which of the two was more likable.
In April, a Washington Post-ABC News poll found an even larger gap, with 64 percent of those surveyed describing Obama as the friendlier, more likable candidate, and only 26 percent saying that about Romney.
Were not going to win a personality contest. Its not an election for class president. Its who can best solve the problems of the country, said Romneys pollster, Neil Newhouse. Likability isnt fixing the economy or helping the middle class make ends meet.

(5,946 posts)I just don't see - is it because he is rich and people think rich people know more about money?
as far a likable, every time Romney opens his mouth, he is less likable, He also shows how little he know about presidential stuff, like Diplomacy, tact, handling money, talking like a human being.

(35,015 posts)It's how Romney has run his whole life - waving a big fat wad of cash and promising people things. It works as CEO of a venture capital company; those who 'like' him are there because they stand to benefit financially. They probably can't stand him but it doesn't matter if they rake in the dough.
Romney has promised his fellow billionaires that if he's elected, he'll make sure they expand their wealth enormously. The stakes are extremely high, and I think they miscalculated how much Mitt's personality would come into play.
I can only hope the American public won't be bought, even though we've been breastfed on comsumerism.
