CNN Poll: Hillary Clinton trails Sanders in New Hampshire, even without Joe Biden in the race

Hillary Clinton trails Sanders in New Hampshire, even without Joe Biden in the race

(CNN)Hillary Clinton trails Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in the race for the Democratic nomination for president in New Hampshire, even if Vice President Joe Biden decides not to make a run for the White House, according to a new CNN/WMUR poll.

Sanders has the backing of nearly half of those who say they plan to vote in the first-in-the-nation Democratic primary next year -- 46% support him -- while just 30% say they back Clinton. Another 14% say they would support Biden, 2% former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, 1% former Virginia Sen. Jim Webb, and less than half of 1% back former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee or Harvard professor Lawrence Lessig.

Clinton trails Sanders across most demographic groups, with broad gender and ideology divides bolstering Sanders' run. He holds 56% of male Democratic voters compared with just 20% who back her, while the two are much closer among women, 39% back Sanders, 37% Clinton. Likewise, Sanders holds a 56% to 30% lead among liberals, versus a 37% to 31% race among moderates.

And opinions about the Democratic race have solidified more so than on the Republican side of the coin. More than half of Democrats now say they have made up their minds or are leaning toward someone, compared with 41% on the Republican side.

or tied. You have to include someone who isn't running to beat Hillary. They do that in every poll lately.

"Though Clinton picks up more of Biden's supporters than Sanders when they are reallocated to their second choice, Sanders maintains control of the race, holding 49% to Clinton's 36%."

“Which Democratic candidate do you think has
the right experience to be President?”
Sept
2015
JOE BIDEN 23%
LINCOLN CHAFEE 0%
HILLARY CLINTON 44%
LAWRENCE LESSIG 0%
MARTIN O’MALLEY 1%
BERNIE SANDERS 18%
JIM WEBB *
SOMEONE ELSE – SPECIFY *
DK / NOT SURE 13%

OR that he has the best chance to win the general election.

“Which Democratic candidate do you think has
the best chance of winning in the general election next November?”
Sept
2015
JOE BIDEN 15%
LINCOLN CHAFEE 0%
HILLARY CLINTON 51%
LAWRENCE LESSIG 0%
MARTIN O’MALLEY 1%
BERNIE SANDERS 19%
JIM WEBB 0%
SOMEONE ELSE – SPECIFY 1%
DK / NOT SURE 13

You'd think Sanders's numbers in these 2 categories would reflect his overall level of support.

People prefer Bernie but they are doudtful the establishment will allow him to win nomination but they want to vote for him anyway.

They admit Hilary's has exceperence to be president but support Bernie In primary because they prefer his policys over her's.

7. Sanders lead in NH rises (a little)
Thu Sep 24, 2015, 07:25 PM
Sep 2015

This poll has a modest sample size of 820 adults in NH. With a large-ish MoE of +/-5.5 amongst 314 Democratic Primary voters. But the results indicate a continuation of aggregate trends for all 3 candidates.
Sanders rising / Clinton falling / Biden steady to rising slightly.

CANDIDATES June / Sept
JOE BIDEN 8% / 14% (+6)
HILLARY CLINTON 43% / 30% (-13)
BERNIE SANDERS 35% / 46% (+11)

RCP composite up 1.1pts to Sanders +11.6

If this continues, they'll be using that chart in political science classes for decades to come.

Looks like Team Clinton is trying to introduce some kind of alternative-energy seagoing vessel... the purple submarine... "DIVE! DIVE! DIVE!" I crack myself up sometimes.

Now is the time for a real progressive populist movement, but the message needs to be clear and not overly complex and it needs to be repeated over and over to drive it home into the minds of the people.

Then Bernie will win.

On edit: Do you have a suggestion for a single sentence or a few sentences to convey why Bernie Sanders should be elected?

Thanks.
