So Hillary is going after guns
She is hoping to get some of the left's votes.
This is what happened today when President Obama visited the grieving families in Oregon. Sorry about the link source, it came on my FB feed from a very progressive friend. We are appalled. Hillary may wonder how good of a choice she made because I don't think she will gain that any more Left votes but may lose some votes she already had. http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/davidbadash/hours_before_obama_honors_oregon_shooting_victims_two_more_school_shootings_today_leave_2_dead Hundreds of "gun rights" supporters who oppose gun control lined the highway into town to send a strong message to the President as he drove to meet with the families of the victims of last Thursday's massacre: "Go home!"

1. If hundreds of BLACK gun rights supporters had demonstrated
anywhere close to where WHITE President George W. Bush had been speaking, what would have been the result?

4. They wouldn't even need guns
and they would be beaten, shot at and many killed.
Did you see this? |

8. About what I expected to see.
But the white man is clearly a patriot exercising his Second Amendment rights (as a white man) to carry a gun.
The black man is clearly a Black Panther intent on armed revolution. THIS is pornography. The intersection of white privilege, acute racism, and police repression. |

10. Yes, 2nd amendment is for primarily white people
I am surprised minorities like me can carry cell phones, they can look so dangerous.

11. President Bush set up fenced in free speach zones.
So that he never needed to hear it.

21. and surrounded the "free speech" zones with police.
We would not want people thinking that the First Amendment was more important than the Second.

2. I am completely missing whatever point is trying to be made....liberals should give up on gun
control because a handful of yahoos in Oregon showed up to prove how brainwashed they are??

6. So, as I thought....no response because there was no point to defend to begin with!
The "liberals should not do gun control because of all the massive loss of gun lovers votes" is tired and old and wrong and a beloved meme of the NRA.
Just pointing that out. |

12. They heard the president's speech the day of the college shooting
And didn't like what they heard. Their right to do so just as its are right to applaud the speech.

13. I didn't say they don't have the right, I said they were despicable and I stand by that.
They care more about their guns than the feelings of the families who are grieving.

7. Roseburg is wingnut territory, not really the "left".
If that's the point you're trying to make. Roseburg is pretty conservative.

9. Maybe my point isn't clear
Hillary, who understood the gun culture and celebrated it in 2008 especially when it helped her create a difference between her opponent during that primary race, now is again trying to create a difference between her opponent in this race. What she may not understand, besides being all over the spectrum on guns, is that her small gain in votes for the left will be off set by a large loss of votes from the right.
Why I am saying this? Because I don't believe in gun control? NO, I believe in gun control, not banning of guns. I do think most of the gun laws like right to carry have the unspoken words---as long as you are white---attached to them. I am saying this because I think Hillary is only thinking of how she can be elected. I hold very little hope that she has a moral center on a lot of things (except women issues and even that I think is pretty white and middle to upper class). But she is ready to shape shift at the drop of a hat to garner more votes. This latest move may not be such a great vote getter as she would have hoped. |

And did you think she was getting votes from the rightwing?

17. The political spectrum is not black and white and not one dimensional
Trying to reduce voters to left or right is absurdly reductionist.
For instance we have a well known poster on DU who in 2008 thought Hillary Clinton was a Rovian liar who should never be a candidate in so many words and today thinks she is the best qualified candidate for President. People are complicated and change their minds as we can see, often for reasons that they are unable to adequately explain as we have seen the last 24 hours. |

18. My point is, is the notion that she may lose rightwing votes...
A reason to not stand up to the NRA on this important issue? It shows she's a fighter. Screw the rightwing votes.
