For me, Sanders separated himself clearly from the status quo politician. His answers on Snowden, health care, social security, big banks and the NSA did it for me.

She definitely separated herself from Obama with the "I have a vagina" answer...

(15,720 posts)She's not running against Obama and she'd better not even think about pulling an Al Gore. So what else is there to say but the obvious? Any effort to answer in policy terms is going to hurt her chances. So she found the perfect non-answer to a question she'll probably be hearing a lot.

(12,501 posts)Is Sanders won the debate because he stuck to the issues, stayed on task and talked to the issues that mattered the most.

(3,624 posts)The first half, I have the edge to Clinton as she handled the more challenging questions better. Her slip-ups came in the second half when Sanders came on strong as questions shifted to his comfort zone and he effectively stayed on message without seeming evasive. Overall, the leading candidates reinforced existing strengths and weaknesses. That said, Clinton had more to lose and she did what she had to do - give a strong performance and head off a post-debate slide narrative. I don't think Sanders added to his support. While O'Malley did well, his opponents were too strong for him to make any inroads.
