I think it was more or less a tossup between Clinton and Sanders.
I support Sanders.

(12,530 posts)There were a couple of moments when it almost seemed to transcend normal debates--well, that may be a little lofty. But it was a good debate. Being the partisan Sanders supporter I am, I thought she was a little TOO polished at times, but she did a very good job.

(12,336 posts)Therefore, I am biased. I voted "other" because I believe the American people won because we could all see how five candidates can act civilly and still make points.
To me, this is proof hat the Dems need more debates. More debates by these five fine candidates, including Webb, means more exposure and (hopefully) more of a wake up call for the USA.

That would be awesome.

(28,270 posts)I think the country will say Hillary did.
Sen. Sanders has some great ideas no doubt, and Mr O'Malley had some good things to say as well.
These 3 are worlds better than any republican in the race and that's for damn sure!

(11,417 posts)we will all wake up tomorrow and back to the primary wars.

(3,623 posts)Sanders and Clinton shone at different points and both had some weak responses but, on balance, pretty even. And, O'Malley was right there with them. Great debate - I give them all kudos!

However, he is more of a bad ass than anyone running for the republican nomination.

Hillary did fine.

(19,570 posts)In the end, we all won. This was a serious debate. The GOP and it's dozen freaks didn't allow for rebuttals and discussions.

(14,733 posts)'Winning' depends on what your goals were, and I think Sanders and Clinton went in with somewhat different strategic goals.
I think both did well at what they were trying to do, so now we wait to see how the regular polls change post-debate to see whose strategy worked better in electoral terms.
DisgustipatedinCA
(12,530 posts)Both did very well, and the people who support one or the other can both be happy tonight. Still, I expect Sanders to gain a few points from this debate.

Bernie was Bernie and showed he is on his message at all times.
But Of course I would see Bernie as the winner. All I can say is of the three who I think has a shot at the nominee I will be proud to vote for either of them. I'll vote for a yellow dog before I vote for a 'CON though.

(5,217 posts)I can't vote for Hillary. I think she says whatever she has to say. And I think it will have very little connection to what she would do once she were in office.

(13,688 posts)Hillary has been debating for years. She was programmed for this debate, whereas Bernie was the real Bernie. Bernie all the way.

(44,085 posts)the many tough, pressing challenges of our times. Hillary was adept, prepared and came off well. O'Malley is an articulate and attuned speaker who showed skill at focusing and elaborating on important issues. It was a very successful debate with AC and Dana Bash asking good questions and handling responses and the flow of the event well.

(60,212 posts)I thought O'Malley looked good up there.
He looked like he belonged on the same stage as the front-runners, and I hope he remains in the race.

(21,506 posts)I think bernie gets the most benefit because a large portion of america has only been exposed to the cartoon version of Bernie and this will have been their first opportunity to actually hear him speak.
I doubt the numbers will move much at all from this debate however.
DisgustipatedinCA
(12,530 posts)I think Hillary Clinton turned in a more practiced, smoother performance. So in some ways, she outperformed him--but that may actually have been a drawback in one way, if anti-incumbency is as big of a thing as I perceive it to be this year.
Egnever
(21,506 posts)Because there was no clear winner I think bernie wins based just on exposure. Clinton is a known entity while Bernie just showed he has the chops to stand next to her. I think there are many out there who don't know him and based just on the exposure this gave him his numbers may move some.
Both did well in my opinion.

(103,220 posts)of both Clinton and Sanders and have yet to choose which I will vote for in the primaries but I was impressed with Chffee and O'Malley even thought they didn't get to say much. I was a fan of Chaffee's dad when I was a New England resident and kept up with local politics there and this son has had some experience but RI is pretty tiny place with a tiny population.
What I noticed was that they were respectful when they disagreed and that they also back each other up on some points, don't recall seeing or hearing of that in any recent debates.
So I think it was a tie between Clinton and Sanders and I also think that Chaffee and O'Malley both contributed to the conversation in helpful, positive ways. Webb is too militant for my preferences. I also think either Clinton or Sanders would make good as president.

(14,308 posts)I thought he embarrassed himself.
I thought Hillary and Bernie both did well.
Webb is in the wrong party. He should have been in the Republican kiddie tanle debate.
O'Malley did fine, but won't change his numbers.

(17,438 posts)O'Malley showed well, but he isn't catching anyone. Webb should run for the GOP. Was there another guy?

(11,833 posts)Though he did say he is for reinstating the Glass-Steigal Act. And that he would end the wars. He didn't say anything incredibly offensive or insulting toward the middle class, immigrants or women or minorities, as all the republicans have at one time or another.
