2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumClinton was poised and presidential. Sanders seems like the Occupy crowd
angry and belligerent and ultimately went nowhere.

Perceptions are everything. Unfortunately, how some things are perceived differ greatly based on one's motivations.

(80,708 posts)She didn't seem terribly poised and presidential then. She seemed, again, irritated that she should have to deal with the technicality of actually running the race.

(28,749 posts)Clearly it's a competitive race.

(80,708 posts)I noticed her answer quite carefully avoided ANY mention of Glass-Steagal, at all.
She gave some good answers on other things, however.

(23,946 posts)The poor analogy is purely defective from the issue-oriented debate.
There was a family spirit last night that some do not like to see....I get it.

Eric J in MN
(35,619 posts)He mentioned last night that he got funding for community health centers in the Obamacare bill.
Also, that he solved problems with VA hospitals as chair of a VA Senate Committee.
With regard to OWS, Sanders shares its concern with income inequality. But a difference is that OWS shuns electoral politics, and Sanders has been elected again-and-again.

(21,846 posts)I visited many of the people involved in the movement down at Zuccotti Park. They were peaceful and shared books, food, ideas, etc.
I also want to remind you that the movement had a tremendous effect. Thanks to this movement, the public understood what the 1% was doing. OWS' language and ideas have permeated the culture and changed the dialogue.

Sanity Claws
(21,846 posts)So no, I did not miss them.
I remember attending rallies at Washington Square Park and Union Square Park. I also remember the marches from one site to another. Large groups were involved and they were peaceful.
The violence I recall came from the NYPD. They pepper sprayed people for exercising their rights of free assembly. http://gawker.com/nypd-pepper-sprays-flood-wall-street-protesters-1637831529
They destroyed the library that OWS had set up. http://gothamist.com/2013/04/10/thanks_nypd_ows_library_wins_settle.php
As a result of the NYPD's actions, the City was required to pay out megabucks. The above article from Gothamist regarding the library is just one of many payouts the City was forced to make.
Here's another cite regarding the NYPD's unlawful actions against OWS. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2012/jul/25/nypd-occupy-protests-report
