(11,014 posts)Ellen's fans will think Bernie is an obsessive zealot who bullies people based upon his fans' behavior.
There is now a verb for that "to janegoodall"

(11,014 posts)Fact: Jane Goodall's facebook page was trashed by a swarm of Bernie supporters.
Fact: Howard Dean's facebook page was trashed by a swarm of Bernie supporters.
Fact: John Lewis' facebook page was trashed by a swarm of Bernie supporters.
Fact: CNN's facebook page was being trashed by a swarm of Bernie supporters. CNN was smart enough to have bouncers deleting all attacking posts.
Bernie followers swarming against any negativity whatsoever is now an accepted fact and jokes will be written about it as it continues.

(39,909 posts)but you have no support for any of them... just your fantasies and paranoia.
I could just as easily claim that those were all Hillary supporters running a paid "False Flag" political operation because the rise in Bernie's numbers has scared them.
I have just as much evidence to support THAT ridiculous claim as you have to support yours.
What I saw was CNN get caught in trying to Manufacture the News that Hillary had won, and the People who actually watched the Debates responding with the truth.
That is closer to FACT than anything you posted.

EVIDENCE: This Thread.
It is deeply ironic that you would post a Hillary Supporters are VICTIMS in a thread that attacks Bernie supporters.

(67,782 posts)....I haven't seen that.
But the Sanders campaign has been "caught" (if you want to use that term) urging their followers to swarm all of the online polls, and even provided full instructions AND THE TEXT THEY SHOULD USE!
Most people consider online polls unscientific and inaccurate, but that tactic renders the online polls about the debate even less scientific and accurate, if not totally worthless.

Since CNN has taken down their online polls, one would suspect they uncovered this trick and concluded their polls were unfairly compromised.

(39,909 posts)I could do a much more professional job with my graphics program in less than 5 minutes,
AND sign it "Hillary Supporters".
Truth is that anonymous posts to the Social Media are NOT "facts".
I am a Bernie supporter,
listed with his campaign,
on Bernie's mailing and E-Mail list.
I did NOT receive the anonymous "notice" you are waving around DU like it means something.
It doesn't.
If YOUR mind can accept this as "proof" or even legitimate support for ANY argument,
I can understand why we are such different people.....thank gawd.
I am curious:

To Bernie Supporters at DU,
did YOU receive this particular call out from Bernie's campaign office?[/font]

"Rep. Lewis, there are few people in public life for whom I have more respect than you. You have been one of my heroes throughout my life. But I couldn't disagree with you more about Clinton. She is not a progressive and would be a terrible president. I ask you to reconsider your position. I support a true progressive and a long time champion of civil rights--Bernie Sanders."
Most I saw were in that vein. Sure a few hotheads, but also Hillary hotheads.
We're a large and diverse country. Not everyone who dislikes Clinton is a "Bernie Supporter(TM)".....And there are hotheads and buttheads in any segment you care to name, as well as wonderful ones. Hell, even right wing Republicans.

(62,325 posts)Ellen but she genuinely didn't seem to know that are people and Corps who PAY NO TAXES at all. THAT is who Bernie was talking about.
She seemed puzzled by that, but she is a smart woman and I think she will do her homework and when she does will be very angry that while SHE and many others who have worked to get what they have, with their talents and skills, they do pay their fair share, there are those who take their money OFFSHORE, who get laws passed to make sure they don't do what she is doing, pay their fair share.
Bernie was great, as always.

(19,326 posts)Ellen was already in the tank for Hillary. Check out Ellen's soft-ball love-in when
she just had Hills on her show a few weeks ago. Ellen even says "of all the candidates,
YOU (Hillary) are the only one qualified" .. So it's no mystery to me that Ellen had
"gotcha" questions for Bernie on taxes.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)her. I assumed her knowledge of the issue she raised was limited due to her support of Hillary.
I would be very disappointed in her if she received any help re the questions to ask Bernie from the Hillary campaign.
I think however that Bernie probably scored a lot of points with the audience who seemed to understand what he meant better than Ellen
I am glad he appeared on the show, and I hope she thinks more about who she supports because she is so wrong about Hillary being the 'best qualified'.

(19,326 posts)Hillary WON'T raise taxes on her precious earnings that "she worked so hard for" .. what
a load of crap. Sure, she worked hard, who doesn't; but she got some breaks too along
the way, and benefited from opportunities that presented themselves. What ever happened
to the "giving back" to the culture and the nation that afforded her those opportunities?
I'm sure Hillary supporters will think this anti-tax line of Libertarian bull-shit is just fine to
spout, since it uses Ellen's popularity to Hill's advantage.
The especially puke-worth moment was when Ellen implied that without keeping all her
hard-earned money, she wouldn't be able to "give away so much" to help us Little People,
in front of her audience salivating for one of Ellen's "give-aways". The audience was not
as gullible as Ellen hoped, as they still gave Bernie a respectable applause even after Ellen's
cheap shots.
Bernie still did great with the weird questions, but I totally lost respect for Ellen in that
moment.
PS- I highly doubt that those "give-aways" that Ellen brandishes about on her program
come out of her personal checking account anyway. Doesn't the network and/or sponsors
pay for all that flashy "generosity"?

(11,014 posts)Bernie's plan would be more palatable if he were to cut defense spending by 50%. That is now seen as unlikely to happen because of his hawkish answers in the debate.
He still wants all his programs enacted. So the logical conclusion is that he'll have to raise the nominal tax rates above the current 39.6% to 55% which will take the total burden on California residents of 68% in tax rate.
This is precisely why Bernie will lose the GE if nominated. His numbers won't add up and he'll have to admit that taxes will go up.
Taxing billionaires sounds good but as a practical matter it takes away the incentives from the system and Americans who want to be rich some day will have a problem with it.
Bernie is also promoting estate tax increase and transaction taxes on investments. Which means after having a confiscatory tax on income, what is left will be taxed again and again and after working hard, taking a lot of risks, there is nothing left to pass on to one's children.
Bernie wanted a higher profile, he got it from the debate but higher profiles come with tougher treatment by the media. Deal with it.
bvar22
(39,909 posts)LOL.
After WW2 , Republican President Eisenhower set the upper bracket at 91% claiming that the Rich and the War Profiteers should pay their fair share in paying down the National Debt.
After the War Debt was paid off, JFK dropped the upper tax rate to 71%.
These economic policies plus the New Deal built the largest, wealthiest, and most upwardly mobile Middle/Working Class the World had ever seen....
AND, the economy thrived, expanded, and people still got rich.
"confiscatory taxes"?... what a conservative pant load.
Response to bvar22 (Reply #36)

cosmicone
(11,014 posts)Europe was in shambles, Asia was reeling and there was no competition to the US industry. Thus the economic risk of investments was low. One could start any business and it was guaranteed success.
Now there is global competition which have lowered profit margins and investments have become riskier and riskier.
thesquanderer
(13,006 posts)So if businesses today are relatively less profitable than they used to be (due to globalization, as you say), well, they will pay less in taxes, even if the rates were as high as they used to be at their highest (which I don't think anyone is suggesting as the goal).
cosmicone
(11,014 posts)need a return on investment. (ROI)
Risk and barriers to entry in today's world are infinitely greater than post WWII.
If you raised taxes, the RIO is too low and unsustainable to attract capital. Also, it would devastate the mutual funds' growth rates and leave many people saving for retirement not able to meet their goals.
The fundamental assumption of Bernie and his supporters is that all investors are billionaires. In reality, most investors are middle class people saving $100 or so a month towards retirement.
bvar22
(39,909 posts)You are posting theory.
I have posted history.
I'll stick with proven History over Republican theory.
The RICH were whining under Eisenhower and JFK too.
In fact,
they used the exact same arguments (Republican Theory) you are posting here today in an attempt to stave off the Tax increases under Eisenhower.
"They" also insisted it would ruin the economy.
"They" were exactly WRONG then too.

You and Ellen want capitalism in all it's fucked up glory ? You got it. Now pay the fucking man and stop whining and complaining. That is the price you pay and the cost of doing business to provide you with all this capitalist "freedom" for which you defend as your own.

(11,014 posts)Wrong assumption: Just because I am against higher taxes means I am against social programs.
Wrong assumption: I get this from Fox News.
Wrong Assumption: I was whining and complaining.
You doubled down on it to direct me to Free Republic or the Cave.
You forget that Americans are optimistic people and everyone wants to be rich. This is why class warfare has always failed.
Learn from history. Before the civil war, only 3% of southerners had slaves but near 100% of southerners fought for the confederacy. Why? Because the ones who were not rich enough to own slaves wanted to own slaves one day.
The same way, people are against confiscatory taxes, especially in a bad economy because they see their dream of becoming rich melt away.
Secondly, I'd rather see defense spending cut to increase social programs like healthcare than increase taxes.
Lastly, historically, a candidate to say "I'll raise taxes" is poison. Ask Walter Mondale.
AOR
(692 posts)your posts in this thread are one of two things. Pure trolling or right-wing horseshit. In either case you fail. This is not hillaryclintonsupporters.com where people will ignore this kind of trolling for political expediency and getting Clinton elected. Clinton supporters should be embarrassed to have such an ally. Then again... most probably stand proudly with this kind of trolling that supposedly represents "the left."
cosmicone
(11,014 posts)but that is no reason to displace your anger at people who have a different point of view.

Bernie did not explain that Ellen's tax dollars are being wasted on
warmongering, corporate subsidies, private contractors, incarcerating 2.3 million
people, government shut downs, fake investigations, etc.
Ellen stated she pays 50% in taxes.
I don't think that is correct.

Bernie did not explain that minimum wage workers get food stamps

(12,655 posts)I decided to take the more optimistic view that she really doesn't understand very well how the tax system works and how the middle class and poor are still being screwed. The other interpretation is that she knows damn well how the tax system works and was trying to trip him up. but that still shows a lack of critical thinking skills, because if she knows anything about him she would've known that such a meager attempt to trip him up wouldn't even slow him down.
I guess neither of my interpretations shows her in a particularly favorable light, at least as far as political intelligence is concerned. But then again, her expertise is elsewhere so I'm not worrying about it. and most importantly, the audience got it.
