Check in if you LOVE Joe Biden...

I used to think it was stupid when people said of a candidate, "He's the kind of guy you'd like to have a beer with" as though that was somehow an important part of governance.

But just let me say that having a beer with Joe Biden is officially on my bucket list. I love the guy.

And, Joe, I'm buying!

He's one of a vanishingly small number of "public servants" in elected office these days. He's almost a 'throwback' to the post-WW2 era when returning GIs saw, up close and personal, what happens when people with genuine and egalitarian public interest don't get involved in their own political systems.

Sometimes, in a democracy, we actually get better than we deserve. Biden is an example.

And he's also REALLY smart. Never forget that Uncle Joe was chairman of the senate foreign relations committee, which was one of the reasons that Obama picked him -- to give some foreign affairs experience and gravitas to the ticket. Joe would have made a great Sec of State. I think he was wasted as a VP, given that the 112th congress is simply fucked by the Party of Obstruction. Joe is not only a great democrat, but also a great feminist. He sponsored the first anti-violence against women act. Joe Biden was my 1st choice in the 2008 dem primaries, followed by Hilary, followed by Obama. If both Joe and Hilary decide to run in the 2016 primaries, I shall be sorely taxed to choose between them. But aren't we progressives lucky to have such excellent people on our side? Especially when compared to the midgets and liars of today's GOP.

He really IS the guy I would want to have a beer with--and I HATE beer!

For the sake of nostalgia, I'll put up a link to a post I put up on the old DU in the summer of 2008:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x6699328#6700175

MAN did I get shit for posting that Biden was Obama's choice before it was announced!! But I couldn't say how I knew. I guess I can now, as most of the players have moved on. Here's what happened:

My younger nephew was interning with the Texas Democrats in Washington, and they were located right next to the DNC, so he knew who a LOT of DC staffers were. He was small for his age (then 17), and has strong Asian features (mother is from Japan). He swam every morning at a pool that was also frequented by some of the Congressional staffers. One morning, he was swimming, and two women from Biden's staff were excitedly discussion the impending announcement, probably figuring my nephew was some young child of an Asian immigrant who knew little to no English. Surprise!!

He immediately called me to let me know, and I posted, if somewhat hedging my bets, on DU. Of course, I didn't want to get anyone in trouble, so I said nothing of my source. My nephew is now interning for the US in a hotspot embassy in North Africa, having been a top student in Arabic in college, and Joe Biden is indeed now Vice-President.

How times change!

Some times though, I smack my forehead when I hear what he said. Simple mistakes which could have easily been made by anyone... but... for God's sake Joe, get some rest.

I don't imagine he's sleeping very well, or often. Everyone knows the smears against him are BS - even the republicans know it. Still... man, it's Virgina, not North Carolina. Shackles, not chains.. delivery, man... delivery. Reminds me of that joke about a Priest who drinks too much vodka before giving a sermon. (He was "thrown from his mule", not "stoned off his ass"..."We do not refer to the virgin mother as "Mary with the cherry&quot

I don't love Joe Biden like I love my girlfriend and my family.

I like the guy, but I don't love him.

LOVE Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden too! I LOVE seeing her and Michelle Obama together at various events. Two completely gorgeous women, inside AND out.

Until a few months ago didn't really give him much thought. But, he has moved the national dialog forward, beautifully. I can see why Obama picked him out of a very large pool of qualified people. So, I guess that makes me a relatively new fan.

I prefer Joe un-muzzled.

I have always enjoyed and admired Joe.

He is well enough off, but he could have become extraordinarily wealthy considering how long he has been in politics. Money has never been a driving force for him.

His son, Beau, is another good guy. Keep an eye on him.

(Sorry I came to this OP so late. Just came across it.)
