The Joe Biden-Hillary Clinton cold war heats up

Washington (CNN)Joe Biden hasn't yet said whether he'll run for president -- but his campaign against Hillary Clinton has already quietly begun.
The vice president and the former secretary of state are already engaged in a cold war of sorts, both jockeying for the mantle of heir to President Barack Obama's legacy as they trade veiled shots over political styles, foreign policy decisions and more.
Though the two profess warm feelings toward each other, Clinton's campaign knows Biden is a threat: Polls consistently show he pulls most of his support from Clinton if he enters the race -- turning the campaign into a three-way race and giving Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders room to pass both. Tuesday, she rolled out a long list a long list of endorsements -- more than 50 African-American mayors, many of them from the key early-voting state of South Carolina.
And Biden knows he'll have to cut away at Clinton's base -- in part by wrestling Obama supporters away from her.
Biden made the contrasts hard to ignore Tuesday morning at a tribute to former Vice President Walter Mondale, when he invoked Clinton -- not by name, but also without prompt, signaling that she is clearly on his mind -- several times.
One was a shot at Clinton's remark during the first Democratic presidential debate a week ago that Republicans are among the enemies she's most proud of making.
"I really respect the members up there and I still have a lot of Republican friends. I don't think my chief enemy is the Republican Party. This is a matter of making things work," Biden said.
It was the second such remark Biden made in two days, as the vice president made similar comments at a climate change event on Monday.
"I don't consider Republicans enemies," Biden said. "They're friends."

Weird headline.

(30,481 posts)I think it's why the op included their own directions to look for a tweet in a video. They know the article is tripe but want to sell it.

(102,007 posts)I really question his political chops if he thinks making nice with Dick Cheney and the Republicans is an effective strategy to win a Democratic primary...All Hillary has to do is cite all the god awful things he and them said about President Obama.

(24,689 posts)Is he going to come in a start trashing Hillary.. thats not Biden like.. or just play it cool and hope the voters move to him because he is such a nice guy?
I just dont see it happening now that Hillary has got her groove back.

(30,481 posts)I know I am suppose to be looking for a tweet in a video but where is any sparring at all? They simply must have forgotten to add that.

(14,378 posts)or some other slanted piece of specious nonsense often gleaned from a right wing website posing as a left wing one. I'm starting to question your motivations.
Did you always want the party to come apart at the seams or is this position new for you?

It's like the golden ring is right in front of us...
I believe that if we rose up and supported Bernie Sanders, it would be a much quicker way to save ourselves, this country, and the planet.
Just MNSHO...
And the post that I put out had the Stockholm Hyperbole, that was a tad over the top...
And was intended to get a discussion going... and man, did it.
Anywho... I appreciate your support, and want to thank you for an actual answer you gave.
In another thread you mentioned the difficulty that insurgent candidates have, and the comfort of the familiar.
Really good analysis... hadn't considered that.
Again, thank you for your reasonableness and understanding.
We may not always agree, but I respect where you stand.
Peace out.

(102,007 posts)I start from the premise they could be worse...
I went from living in a 2,200 square feet, 4 bedroom, 3 bath pool home in a gated golf course community to a 450 square foot rent controlled studio apartment I share with my girlfriend. I went from driving a 2007 Lexus to riding the bus. Some folks might have contemplated suicide. But my 450 square foot apartment doesn't look so bad when I remember my gf and I were living dormitory style with college students in a Koreantown hostel and before that we were couped up iin a spare 110 foot bedroom in my friends house.
Thanks to the passage of ACA and the concomitant expansion of Medicaid I now get Medi-Cal. I don't want to gamble on total GOP control and lose that.

The Unemployment Division for the State of California.
I guess I have to admit that part of my support of Bernie Sanders is to stick it in the nose of the "Masters of the Universe"... Wall Street.
And no... I definitely don't want a Repuke at the helm.
Here's my other (LOL !!!) frustration with the Democratic Party: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10026410677

(102,007 posts)She received CA's generous unemployment benefits until they ran out. If not for friends we would have literally been homeless.
Oh, I lost my business , savings, investments, car, and home during The Great Recession. When you have a $4,000.00 nut a month with no money coming in savings disappear fast.
I started sinking around 2008... I remember doing back of envelope calculations; I have $110, 000.00 left. I have $80,000.00 left. I have $50,000.00 left, I have nothing left!!!
I went from the penthouse to the outhouse.

I don't see much good faith in a Reagan-democrat good, Hillary-democrat bad kind of perspective.

Not that there aren't already numerous reasons to not vote for you, but that one just ties them all up in an ugly bow.
