Biden: Clinton ‘Naive’ for Calling GOP the Enemy, Hoping to Govern
http://time.com/4080728/joe-biden-clinton-naive-for-calling-gop-enemy-hoping-to-govern/?xid=homepage

"It is necessary to end this notion that enemy is the other party"

Vice President Joe Biden rebuked former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Tuesday as “naïve” for calling Republicans her chief enemy.

“It is possible, it is necessary to end this notion that enemy is the other party,” Biden told the crowd of Washington notables that included members of Congress and former President Jimmy Carter. “End this notion that it is naïve to think we can speak well of the other party and cooperation. What is naïve is to think it is remotely possible to govern this country unless we can. That is what is naïve.”

Clinton was asked last week to name which enemy she has made in her career that she was most proud of and responded with a list. “Well, in addition to the NRA, the health insurance companies, the drug companies, the Iranians; probably the Republicans,” she said.

Nobody has ever accused him of being an intellectual heavyweight, Challenged to find a way to separate himself from Hillary Clinton he says he likes Republicans and that Dick Cheney is a "decent guy" and she doesn't particularly like them and him.

I might not be Einstein but I don't believe that's an effective strategy in a Democratic primary.

" I vacillate between the various theories I’ve heard, but you know, if you had somebody as president who wanted to take America down, who wanted to fundamentally weaken our position in the world and reduce our capacity to influence events, turn our back on our allies and encourage our adversaries, it would look exactly like what Barack Obama’s doing... I think his actions are constituted in my mind those of the worst president we’ve ever had."

-Dick Cheney

Even Nixon and Reagan didn't go there.

Since 2008, the republican meme has been to deny Obama everything because he is African-American/biracial.
If HRC is elected, it will be the same thing but the reasons will be because she is a woman and married to Bill Clinton.
If Bernie is elected, it will be because he is Jewish (not Netanyahu material), a "Socialist", and old.

Memo to Joe Biden, republicans have made themselves the "enemy" of the democrats. It doesn't matter which democrat is elected to office. Any and all are targets for any given "reason". It's simply because they are not republicans (and the "right kind" of republicans at that).

I welcome any DU-er who can successfully predict at what time the republicans will return to bipartisonship. I honestly don't see it happening anytime soon.

To be precise HRC was asked "what enemies she made she was most proud of"

I am sure Elliott Ness was proud to have made an enemy of Al Capone, Abraham Lincoln was proud to have made an enemy of Jefferson Davis, and Franklin Roosevelt was proud to have made enemies of Tojo, Mussolini, and Hitler.

If he wants to have a chance, he has to portray her as a stealth republican, not as an enemy of republicans.

Of course she trashes republicans now - she's in the middle of a Democratic primary. But don't worry, once she has that nomination sewn up, and she has to appeal to moderates and independents, she's going to sing an entirely different tune.

If Biden doesn't realize that, he's wasting his time. Unless he's somehow working with Sanders to box her in.

Republicans are hell bent on destroying this country.

Republicans are hell bent on restricting voting access.

Republicans are hell bent on protecting the rights of corporations

over the rights of people.

Republicans are hell bent on ending Separation of Church and State.

Republicans are hell bent on keeping blacks marginalized.

Republicans are hell bent on limiting the rights of women to health

care and contraception.

Republicans are hell bent against equal pay for women.

Republicans are hell bent against equality.

Republicans are hell bent on replacing science with make believe.

Republicans are known liars.

Stop the lies !!!

Republicans are anti American.

Republicans are hell bent on turning the U.S. into a Corporate Christian Theocracy.

Biden, your Republican friends destabilized the middle east.

You voted in favor of their illegal wars and invasions.

You are a buffoon.

You have proved this time and time again.

You gave the credit card companies permission to rip off the American public.

You treated Anita Hill despicably.

If you think Dick Cheney is a decent man your judgement should be questioned

on every issue.

Maybe you should look up decent in the dictionary.

I don't think Dick Cheney fits the description.

Just go away Joe, just go away.

played in order to make Hillary appear more acceptable to the "left"?

Good Cop, Bad Cop

Good cop/bad cop, also called joint questioning or friend and foe,[1] is a psychological tactic used in negotiation and interrogation.[2] "Good cop/bad cop" tactics involve a team of two interrogators who take apparently opposing approaches to the subject. The interrogators may interview the subject alternately or may confront the subject at the same time.

The "bad cop" takes an aggressive, negative stance towards the subject, making blatant accusations, derogatory comments, threats, and in general creating antipathy between the subject and themself. This sets the stage for the "good cop" to act sympathetically, appearing supportive and understanding, and in general showing sympathy for the subject. The good cop will also defend the subject from the bad cop. The subject may feel they can cooperate with the good cop either out of trust or out of fear of the bad cop. They may then seek protection by and trust the good cop and provide the information the interrogators are seeking.[3]

One of the main negotiating arms of the executive branch when it comes to congress. As the poster upthread pointed out, good cop bad cop. Very strange as these comments wouldn't benefit him any way in the primary. Both Sanders and Clinton supporters have great disdain for the GOP. So who are his comments directed at?

If you tell your enemy he is your enemy, he has no incentive to cooperate in even the smallest of ways. If, however, you say you are willing to work with him, then you might -MIGHT- get a crumb or two of progress out of the mud wrestling.

But I don't understand the need to castigate someone else's point of view since both have some validity, IMO. And especially coming from someone who isn't even running for President? I don't get that.

First thing is that they want a horserace but they want it on their terms.

Reporters don't like to have to do a lot of research on questions or discuss detailed policy. Most of them don't want to try to call out a politician on something factual because a lot of the time the talking head reporters get it wrong. When questioned about the opposition Bernie usually just goes straight back to policy which they don't like.

Editors like to have their little sources from the ton of campaign staff that large campaigns often employ. They also prefer the he-said/she-said drek of a regular pro-wrestling style political campaign. (Joe already seems intent on providing that)

Owners of the media are truly uncomfortable with Bernie's public policy. And they should be.

So no, it isn't a conspiracy at all that the media likes Joe better. It is a lot of people just independently making choices as to what they prefer and the media likes Joe which explains their endless speculation-watch.

The have CNN on 24/7. They shout at the tv whenever Biden appears, "Run, Joe, run." They are lifelong dems who don't want h.

They don't remember the Clarence Thomas hearings, or the bankruptcy bills or anything. They just like him best.
