2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumGOP Said they Need 2 Million Votes to Show their People are excited in FL
(Heard this on NPR this morning).
Needless to say, they had the statistical studies showing that they would get just about 2 million total votes, which is the only reason that they'd come out with a definite number like that.
Still, they're just barely going to make it, probably just about 2 million. McCain got 3.9 in the general in 2008. Obama got 4.1 million.
While the 2 million vote total is what they supposedly "wanted," you have to believe that it is under what would actually constitute excitement for the general, especially when the state has been blanketed with more than 10,000 ads, and those nhalf a million Gingrich voters are going to have a hard time returning to Romney. My bet: Florida is called for Obama this year the minute the Panhandle polls close.
Won't be close.

(37,540 posts)Seems to be another under-performing state election. The base is pretty deflated - picking the out-of-touch jobs cremator or the serial wife divorcer with ethics problems....what a choice.

(37,540 posts)Anything less than that number should be the real story tonight.

(44,173 posts)Of course not all precincts have equal numbers of voters, so I guess they could if many vote rich precincts are still out. By my running of the numbers they will fall under 1.8 million.

(36,437 posts)I don't think 2 million does anything for them, but if they fall under their own projections, that's pitiful.
I'm going to project the vote total at 2,145,000.

(44,173 posts)They'll be lucky to get 1.7 million.

(4,484 posts)McCain's primary getting almost 5 million voters.
SO, given that this one is actually sorta-heated right now. 1.7 million is sad. Especially when they were so sure they would at least get 2 million they made this pre-announcement.
