2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumA Very Unscientific Poll...
About my Katy Perry touring with Bill Clinton in Iowa Thread... Which I was locked out of...
And earned a hide... ok by me..
Here's what caused me to post it...
A pub I regularly frequent, is a fairly Democratic bar...
Working class... follow politics... retired and on a union pension... still working trades people.
Some are rooting for Bernie... some like Bernie but don't believe he can win... so they support Hillary.
Sort of like here.
We have one Libertarian... but we think he's just fucking with us.
On Friday after work, I was down sipping on a beer, and as always... politics came up.
We all gave our thoughts on how the debate went, and who we thought won...
We all chirped in on the Benghazi hearings and how Hillary performed and how any of this might effect the race.
Most analysis was positive for all concerned... and everybody felt pretty good about the Democrat's chances a year from now.
However... and this is my point... and just, to me an observation of interest...
At one point I told them that I had just read that Katy Perry was touring with Bill Clinton in Iowa.
Now I like Bill, I like Hillary, I like Katy... and they've all used their positions for the greater good in differing ways...
But something about that tour nagged at me... and when I told my compadres about it...
Everyone of them shook there heads and smiled...
One even rolled his eyes and said, "And WHO thought this was a good idea ???"
When I asked him to explain... he said, "Shit we are already going to have to re-litigate the entire 90's and 2007/2008... are they really this tone-deaf ???"
I could not care less about a politician's private life, NOMB...
But I'm not convinced the rest of society is there yet.
I agree with my friend... bad... and UNNECESSARY optics.

(72,631 posts)People have long memories... people, including me, defended the Clinton Administration during that crap.
In tennis... it's called an unforced error.
You don't think the RW is furiously photo-shopping all manner of salacious shit this weekend.
They could have easily announced simply that supporter Katy Perry would be in attendance/performing before the Jefferson/Jackson Dinner in Iowa on behalf of Hillary Clinton.
Inference solved.
And again... everyone of these Democrats shook their heads.

(8,175 posts)This is about Hillary, not Bill. Anyone who is still hanging onto this as an issue and trying to use it to discredit Hillary's campaign in any way, is acting foolish (and Republicans will act foolish, regardless of the issue). And that includes you WillyT. This should not be brought up once, but you had to go and do it twice? What the hell? Are you so in hate with Hillary that you will stoop to anything to try to discredit her?
This is embarrassing. You are trying to do the same thing to Hillary that some of her supporters keep trying to do to Bernie...he can't win, because...she can't win because, so we have to support the other candidate! Bullshit!
I think either of them can and one of them will win.
Just stop this stuff...Please!

(19,326 posts)Just saw those two new "latest threads" and let Willy T know about the other one
I think the entire thing is ridiculous personally, and isn't the type of discussion I even
want to engage in, the more I see about it.
I hope EVERYONE can just stand-down on this, and "not go there" .. it doesn't have
a place on DU imho.

Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE

Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Stirring up old, right wing suspicions and rumors about Bill Clinton. Hide it.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I see ulterior motive written all over this post... Still, it is a likely scenario that ugly innuendo will accompany Bill Clinton no matter what he does, so I guess we have to acknowledge that.

(45,251 posts)I guess I could alert on the jury results in my inbox, but I won't. I will, however, forward them to anyone who pms me to request them if someone else wants to try alerting on the alerter. I just think DU is in a bad place now.

(53,397 posts)and instead lets look at Katy. Katy is a beautiful, talented, rich woman who is highly unlikely to sleep with a man who is over twice her age. The opinion of your friends of women is pretty freaking low to be honest.

(9,497 posts)I don't care about the Clinton marriage, it is theirs alone and how they decide it should be is their business.
Right to privacy, we can't say don't dictate who is in our bed if we cannot extend the same curtesy. We shouldn't even think about it.
She was married to Russell, I think she may have had it with egotistical, opinionated, funny men.

(84,289 posts)Bill Clinton won two electoral landslides despite his flaws. Voters have had more than 20 years to process this.

(14,459 posts)One of my journals from DU2 often gets me similar flak for pointing out what I was hearing at work before the 2010 midterms. We know how that went, but I still have people mad that I dared to believe President Obama and the Dems were not doing the right thing.
This may be a small issue, but issues outside the DU bubble MATTER.
DemocratSinceBirth
(101,852 posts)We should infer from the seminal poster's intrepid reporting that the nation is consumed with the notion of Bill Clinton having sex with Katy Perry and those that find that inference patently absurd are being myopic, got ya.
Oh, any sentient person knew we were going to get our asses handed to us in 2010 regardless of this member or that member's intrepid reporting.
Hydra
(14,459 posts)But while watching Obama's inauguration live with a Dem group(I'd just been laid off at the time), while the Clintons were walking in, Bill got really friendly with one of the ladies he was greeting, and everyone kinda went O.o, until one of the older ladies just laughed and said "That's just Bill..."
And really? We knew we were screwn in 2010 over the ACA debacle and other issues, yet our party walked on water at the time? Funny...
