Jared Huffman (CA 2) endorses Hillary Rodham Clinton

To my friends who have been urging me to endorse Bernie Sanders for President, and to those who have urged an endorsement of Hillary Clinton, I have an announcement.
I like Bernie very much and definitely "feel the Bern" in terms of his positive, authentic, progressive message and especially his relentless focus on addressing income inequality and fixing an economy that is rigged against the middle class. His candidacy is a very good thing for our country and he has already impacted the race in positive ways. Plus, I enjoyed travelling with Bernie and his wonderful wife Jane to Chile last year on a "co-del" focused on human rights.
I'm also very impressed with Secretary Clinton, especially the strong positions she's taken over the past couple of months on trade, climate, environmental protection, and gun violence. She is uniquely qualified to be President, and her very strong performance in the debate and the sham Benghazi hearing reassures me that her candidacy is only gaining strength. And, as a bonus, I think our country would benefit from electing a qualified woman at long last to be our President.
Considering the terrible GOP candidates, the imperative of winning in this very consequential election cycle, and the opportunity to create a wave election in 2016 that returns both the Senate and the House to Democrats, I believe Hillary is our best candidate.
For that reason, and with lots of respect for Bernie, I am endorsing Hillary Clinton and pledging my support as a "Super Delegate" to her at the Democratic convention. I wanted those who are interested in this to know of my decision and my reasoning.

BTW, he is the rep from Humboldt County, which is arguably one of the most liberal congressional districts in America.

The center of the state will vote for who ever drives the clown car. I saw my rep Lois Capps talking to Hillary after the Benghazi hearing. Though she is not running for reelection I think she will endorse Hillary.

He is my rep. I campaigned against him, thinking he was more of a corporate Democrat than a real progressive. I was supporting Norman Solomon, a true progressive. Also the local Coalition for Grassroots Progress, one of the best progressive groups I know of, is fully behind Bernie and worked hard for Solomon.

Huffman had the money and easily defeated Solomon in the primary. He's been ok on most issues, not so great on others.

This is one of the most progressive districts in the country, very safely blue, it's stretched along the coast, I think it goes as far south as part of Marin county (not sre of that), covers all of coastal Sonoma county, and some or all of coastal Humboldt county.

If Huffman were in any other district I would say he's a decent Democrat. But he's in perhaps the most progressive district on the country, we deserve someone more in line with our views here, and had an excellent candidate representing those views in Solomon.

Huffman is yet another example of money getting in the way of progressive representation, the rot at the center of the Democratic Party, much the same as I see the POTUS primary fight.

It looks like we haven't figured out to defeat monied interests yet. I consider that to be the left's challenge. I expect to see the money used against us by Republicans, which we can handle, because our issues clearly set us on the side of the people.

I would like to see our own party compete with ideas rather than money in the primaries, rather than the corporate wing using it against the left while taking primary election policy positions designed to obscure the very real differences in their policies and those of more leftwing candidates. For those of us on the left, getting our positions represented is ironically blocked as much by our own party as by Republicans.

Shit, this is an area where Republicans are something you have to find on a scavenger hunt.

A year or two ago I learned that my auto mechanic in Cotati had gone over to the Republican side, admitted as much and was spouting what sounded like Fox News or RW talk radio B.S. I haven't been back since, need to find a new mechanic before I get car trouble.

The local Occidental Towing used to (maybe still does) play Limbaugh in the background while they worked. Ugghhh, won't go there unless I'm up a creek without a paddle, which does sometimes happen.

Other than that, I don't know of a single admitted Republican in this area. I'm sure there a a number of them, but none that I know of. Some are probably closeted.

Regards.
