2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI AM NOW HEAVILY LEANING TOWARDS BERNIE SANDERS
After observing the various posts in GD-P, I have been feeling like I had been missing out on many hip things.
1. I always wanted to type an OP in all caps ... it has that cool feel to it. Now I can do it without impunity.
2. Supporting Hillary meant I was owned by corporations and I didn't like that one bit. So I sent a letter to all fortune 500 companies that they were no longer my owner and whosoever has the title to my soul, they should return it forthwith.
3. I always wanted to type multiple OPs saying the same redundant theme. Just typing one OP with an
opinion is boring ... it is much cooler to type 5 fairly identical OPs .. or at least 3. Repetition makes it true for me.
4. I wanted to be a quixotic voice against the myriads of politicians, labor unions, pundits, economists et al who are supporting Hillary. There are just so many of them, I was feeling smothered in the outside world.
5. Being a part of the majority on DU has its advantages and there are simply no disadvantages to being a minority in the extra-DU world. Since I have no life outside DU, I want to be happy here.
6. I like lecturing people instead of being lectured on. It would be really cool to tell some pro-Hillary group how "you people" are all wrong and you just don't understand your group's problems as astutely as Bernie Sanders does. If they still won't budge, it would be exciting to bombard them with a barrage of youtube videos. If that still doesn't work, I can always shrug my shoulders and proclaim that they have "Stockholm syndrome."
7. Hillary's campaign had become stressful to me. She talks about way too many issues and has long plans with specifics. It is just not possible for me to pay attention to all that. It would be calming and a lot simpler for me to focus on economic inequality as pretty much the only issue with unworkable policies to fix it. That means I can rail against economic inequality forever since the issue will never go away. I like issues that are mine to keep for eternity.
8. I was insanely jealous of my neighbor's fancy car. I had no outlet to express my displeasure as a Hillary supporter. Now, I can call him an oligarch or plutocrat and my blood pressure is normal.
9. Every time I had been to a bank, I had been mistreated by the billionaire tellers and bank managers insulting me by asking for an ID or tax returns to justify a loan application. Now I can smugly smile inside knowing that instead of the 2,000 square foot opulently appointed branch, those people would be working out of a vending truck... as soon as the banks are broken up.
10. I used to avoid right wing websites and media because they never had anything good to say about Hillary. Now that I am leaning towards Bernie, those websites have a wealth of information about how Bernie is the right person and how he will be the next POTUS. More reading material is always good.
11. I have been seriously affected by close to 1,800 posts all saying Hillary is untrustworthy and a liar. Even though they were written by the same handful of people, 1,800 is a big number and has to leave a mark. As opposed to that, Bernie is so honest, ethical, aboveboard, open ... he even has his campaign strategy out for everyone to see .. people's shouting notwithstanding. I haven't found them anywhere but I'm sure the full transcripts of all his phone calls and meetings are on reddit or facebook somewhere. That is what I call transparency!
12. One day, I want to retire in a rural state and will need dozens of guns for protection. Bernie has made sure that my rural existence will be well-protected by easy availability of cheap guns. His record in this regard is refreshing.
13. I still have nightmares from my kindergarten teacher shouting and yelling at me. Bernie gives me comfort that such shouting and yelling will no longer be tolerated.
14. I want to post simple, ordinary OPs that get hundreds of recs .. I have never been able to accomplish that as a Hillary supporter. By the same token, I want to be able to post OPs that speak my mind with virtually no chance that anyone could silence my freedom.
15. Hillary is just a politician wanting to win the election... so boring. On the other hand, Bernie was sent to this earth by divine design to give voice to people .. or 25% of the people (honesty is a must while supporting Bernie.) Bernie is not a politician at all .. he is carrying out a celestial mission much the same way Jesus, Buddha or Gandhi did. Any appearance that he is a politician - like participating in debates, hiring a campaign management team or hiring a pollster is just so that he keeps appearances. All those things are completely unnecessary for him to win.
16. Bernie is winning all 50 states ... this is important. Anyone who is not winning all 50 states doesn't deserve to be POTUS.
I'll provide more justification as soon as I have read today's anti-Hillary posts ... they are really changing my mind.

(15,139 posts)a threat, and I'm sorry it was misconstrued as such. Instead of attacking Bernie voters, those in the pro Hillary camp should IMO be focused on Hillary's positives rather than on denigrating those not currently in her camp - especially if they want us to enthusiastically get on board in the general. After all, if she wins the nomination, she will need the support of all Dems. No matter which turd the R's nominate, it's going to be a fierce fight and it's foolish at this juncture to deliberately alienate a significant percentage of the Democratic base.

(22,000 posts)It is purely your wanting to put words into another person's mouth. Whomever the nominee is will have to address the supporters of the other candidates (note plural because there would be two other groups). Expecting people to fall in line immediately without hesitation is YOUR expectation, not the expectation of others. President Obama when he won the primary in 2008 had to address and convince Clinton supporters to join him, why should Hillary Clinton not do the same. Is she somehow fucking special???
You claim over and over again you are a Sanders supporter, but almost every post I see you advocating for Clinton including this one. It seems that you think you can play people for fools.

Really, is it too much to ask those favoring Hillary to similarly state what they like about where she stands on the issues? How is that a threat or a negative attack? If Hillary is the nominee, she's going to have to bring her case to the American people and convince them that she is best equipped to lead this nation. Like it or not, she's going to have to win over the Bernie primary voters, and her supporters can either help by showcasing her positives or hurt by attacking those not yet on board for even daring to ask for reasons why they should support her.

Especially when it has no point other than to kick sand. I would expect for satire, points would be made for your actual candidate's positions by ridiculing the opponent in this way. You did non of that. No where in this attempt were any points made to present Hillary as the better choice, but rather simply a collection of
a. insulting Bernie supporters
b. arrogance about being the front runner
c. exaggerating or plain misrepresenting Bernie's stances for a "laugh".
But not one example, by way of satire, is any position Hillary has taken that is shown as better than the person that is ridiculed. So...fail.

(4,762 posts)I'M THINKING OF HAVING PANCAKES FOR BREAKFAST!
I swear that AS a Bernie supporter, my fellow Bernie supporters on DU make me think twice about the company I keep here. How can such a mature and civil candidate attract such immature and uncivil fans?
I will vote for Bernie as a symbolic act in my rock-solidly safe HRC state (she was my senator). But Hillary will be the nominee and the president, it's obvious, it's a hella lot better than any republican idiot or maniac, and she is a complicated person not the Devil incarnate.
I'm old enough to have cast my first vote for Mondale. So don't tell me about lost causes or false hope. I was also a Red Sox fan, so REALLY, I know snatching failure from the jaws of success. It's sad to see democrats acting like republicans. We stand for fairness and that includes the way we fight.
I will never forgive HRC for voting for the Iraq war but I will happily vote for her in the general if she's the dem nominee, which is obviously going to happen. I've also been sending Bernie checks since he was in the house. His campaign is successfully holding the party more accountable to its left. But I don't kid myself that he will win, and he doesn't have to to succeed.

(59,522 posts)I'm undecided, and will vote on Primary day for the candidate who looks most likely to beat the Republicans. Then I will vote for the nominee, whomever it is.
Unlike Bernie himself who I like, I find the Bernie supporters on DU to be insufferable. Though they seem to be under the delusion that "both sides do it" and they are being persecuted, their childish assholery is really in a league of its own.
I think we are luckier now than at any time in my voting life. We have THREE candidates who have great strengths.
And a "President Rubio" or "President Trump" or "President Kasich" would be the end of the world as we know it.

(22,000 posts)Honestly you would have been better making logical arguments rather than claiming that Sanders supporters all get their talking points from right-wing websites. Absolutely nothing in your post is constructive. It is purely destructive. So the next time you or any Clinton supporter complains about how decisive DU is, I'll be pointing right back to this post.

(11,014 posts)when Sanders' supporters make destructive posts instead of recommending them.
That would be fair amirite?

(22,000 posts)And I never see you do that. So, you are a hypocrite. Plain and simple.
Ps-I'm glad to see that you so quickly answered for Cha.
