From my perspective, this says it all.
I have never heard a candidateneverwho has received huge amounts of money from oil, from coal, from Wall Street, from the military industrial complex, not one candidate'oh, these campaign contributions will not influence me. Im going to be independent.'
"Well, why do they make millions of dollars of campaign contributions? They expect to get something. Everybody knows that. Once again, I am running a campaign differently than any other candidate. We are relying on small campaign donors, 750,000 of them, 30 bucks a piece. That's who I'm indebted to,

CLINTON: Well John, wait a minute. Wait a minute, he has basically used his answer to impune my integrity. Let's be frank here.
SANDERS: No, I have not.
CLINTON: Oh, wait a minute, senator. You know, not only do I have hundreds of thousands of donors, most of them small. And I'm very proud that for the first time a majority of my donors are women, 60 percent.

(9,086 posts)Lame move.
By itself sure it's OK to be proud of getting support from women but using it as a shield to evade other questions is kind of lame.

(15,435 posts)She KNOWS where her support is and how very effective and how very POWERFUL they are! Unless we take Bernie's advice and actually start a Political Revolution, she can skate her way into the WH.
You CAN NOT watch ANY TV unless it's an alternative channel and hear ANYTHING but commentators talking about anyone else other than her as the Democratic nominee! Bernie is right, TURN OFF THE TV! But it ain't gonna happen and SHE knows it. Our Democratic Congress knows it and only a very few are willing to go against her.
I don't want to use the words I feel inside my heart, I know I'll be banned from DU and even that is scary, but I can say that I do believe there are very few in power who will go against her in any serious way. Yes, it is all about MONEY and those of us who have been drained and are struggling don't seem to matter.
BUT I REMAIN ON BERNIE'S SIDE! I WILL KEEP FIGHTING!

(15,435 posts)that we're pretty insignificant. Use whatever name you want to call it, I'm just not seeing much that looks like Democracy. Just saying that makes me feel awful and I have a huge pit in my stomach!

(1,668 posts)Or she would have said that. What are the real numbers?
She said the majority of her donations are from small donors and we know that is less than 20% of her actual total. What percentage of her money did the female donors contribute? Probably around the same.

(19,537 posts)... as to how much money is being spent to support or take down a candidate, even if it is not considered as direct contributions to a campaign. That was what Citizen's United was all about and what makes it such a big factor in elections now, even if candidates can make a claim that they aren't getting "that much" from big money sources (when THEY ARE, but in ways not being measured when they are going to "independent" PACs).
McCutcheon freed overall limits to the total amount of money one can spend in one election collectively directly to all candidates, but one still has limits per candidate of $2,700k. That allows rich people to basically donate money to all of the "big money" candidates they want to donate to, and not just a few of them to keep their total contributions numbers under a certain amount. That kind of disguises contributions as well, as it is the collective amounts of money from a lot of big money donors that can now donate large amounts as a big pool of wealthy donors than they did before.
McCutcheon is probably a big factor in addition to Citizen's United in the number of endorsements that some candidates get and others don't, and is likely reflecting how much the candidates work for big money interests.

(1,965 posts)People, not PAC's or corporations that contribute to candidates also vote for those candidates. Which is why Sec. Clinton gave a shoutout to the voting, contributing women voters of America.

(18,567 posts)Let us not be naive, or disingenuous. I hope Bernie cleans her clock, but he did impugn her integrity. That the impugnment may be fair is another issue, and one much more difficult to prove in a court of law.

(1,309 posts)Bernie says what we all know from decades of watching our government help big business and fight unions and class actions etc., This truth is inconvenient for many and they prefer to support their own lack of knowledge rather than confront the problem. These people who infect the democratic party with their willingness to accept authority no matter how much that authority walks on them are called neoliberals and they are not really democrats or even supporters of democracy. They ignore the control of Hillary and other candidates of both major parties and there fore do not support democracy. They scream party loyalty above all to try to prevent any moves to restore democracy as a value of any party. I am a progressive and I will vote in the fashion which best will advance democracy. Democracy first, democrat party second. Go Bernie!

(4,213 posts)I thought Bernie was terrific last night, and that quote above was spot on, but O'Malley stopped the show when he said they're not "boots on the ground", they're people.
It really made me realize that these kind of phrases like "boots on the ground" minimize that they are people with lives, not just armed machines. That going to war is easy to do. Getting out of it without a lot of "boots on the ground" being lost is not so easy.

The topic was gun control. I thought this comment by Bernie Sanders was pretty darn good, even though much of the audience may have missed it:
BERNIE SANDERS: "...people all over this country, not you Secretary Clinton, are shouting at each other..."

(7,024 posts)And who do they have to counter Bernie's remarks,Hillary's campaign manager and of course he stood up for her but boy he struggled, stammered, paused took a few deep breaths and lied.
Hillary Clinton must think voters are stupid...This really reminded me of something Romney would have said or any Republican would say knowing the media would cover them.just like Hillary knew the media would be in her corner to cover for her BS lies.
What did she say "He has basically used his answer to impugn my integrity, after Sanders said "financial institutions know what theyre going to get in exchange for their campaign contributions."
Ok Hillary again do you think voters are stupid?.
Hillary is running her campaign like a Republican would because she can lie about issues and facts and her campaign knows they have CNN,MSNBC,CBS, ABC to cover her tracks. These cover ups by the media are usually reserved for Republicans but not this election cycle.
How does a candidate feel as if they have accomplished a real feat when an election is purchased and delivered gift wrapped.
Is the really a political accomplishment?
I think Hillary is looking at another 2008

(17,656 posts)After years of complaining that Republicans were guilty of accepting money from corporations, Hillary became one of them.
Sarah Silverman is right -- if Hillary had to wear a suit like NASCAR drivers do, she would have corporate logos sewn everywhere on her outfit!!
Bernie is a man of the people and only accepts donations FROM people!!!
Think about it, which person would you trust in the White House, a sponsor of the corporations, or Bernie?
The answer is obvious!!!!!!!!!
