Related: About this forumWhat are the ID rules for absentee ballots?
Just sent off my absentee ballot for myself and and my 18 year old freshman daughter and was wondering what the laws are governing ID in these cases.
A lot of my Republican friends (yes I have some) kids have gone off to college as well. I have consciously avoided mentioning absentee ballots to them in the hope they forget. Am i being bad?

(22,651 posts)Be good for everyone to check that they are listed as registered. All the different state rules, types of voting, forms and ID needed are listed too.

(1,034 posts)I am on the permanent absentee ballot list. We get a card that shows your various districts and precincts, it shows "permanent absentee." You had to have shown an ID or proved somehow that you can vote.
I haven't been to a polling place for many years. In our primary 50% of the cast votes were absentee. Also, they are counted first.
Every state is different of course. Here they try to get as many people in to vote as possible and still get a dismal turnout.
Regarding Republicans going to vote, holding back info is not lying or cheating. Telling them to go the day after is not ethical, but not reminding them at all is OK.

(47,675 posts)... your absentee or provisional ballot will not be counted. It doesn't matter anyway because they rarely so much as count how MANY they have, much less the votes on them. Unless a race comes down to a very small fraction (almost exclusively local elections), the ballots are sealed away in some protective tomb never to be seen again except by silver fish.
