2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumCan anyone really imagine Bernie Sanders in the White House?
Wapo opinion piece that seems to get it wrong, even the day of the debate.Be sure to read the comments. Cheered me right up. Especially this one:
"Ok, I am in Iowa and I have ONE friend supporting Hillary in the caucus. NO one else is. Even my book club of women are all supporting Bernie."
Oh yes, I can imagine Bernie in the White House.
ETA: Let's call this my first OP(although it isn't). I've been a lurker forever and a rare poster more recently. Thanks for all the K&R's!

MissDeeds
(7,499 posts)and you need to get off your soapbox. Any time a Hillary supporter dismisses Bernie's chances of winning the presidency and makes a snarky, disparaging comment, he or she is asking for a retort. I am tired of Bernie's candidacy being ridiculed and dismissed. If you are a Bernie supporter, you should be too.

She will be looking to cut more taxes for her close friends in the 1%. She will be drafting up more trade agreements that enslave us.
She will let Chevron frack us to death.

And, less recently, I think there were people who couldn't imagine a Catholic in the White House.
All these preconceptions about the President's demographics or ideology are valid -- right up until the voters say otherwise.

(53,994 posts)And not a Clinton bumper sticker or sign to be found. By the way. That "Bernista" thing? It makes me want to dream up a name for Clinton supporters, but I don't see the point in pissing you off. Bernie will need you if he's the nominee. And Hillary will need us if she's the nominee. Which might be a reason not to piss us off.

(9,497 posts)I just voted this November, like almost every other election,as I am very keen to keep the local scene as progressive as it can be.
But before he announced, I was ready to not worry about the bs the candidates on all sides would be spewing for the gear up. I knew most of them wouldn't create possitive change for this country or planet. It would just be varying degrees of bs.
If he loses the nomination, I can see myself going back to the default.

(42,862 posts)It's absolutely hysterical that anyone would take the post so seriously! The indignation, scorn and contempt is priceless and far exceeds anything I could have expected. Who could have guessed that a recycled gag could provoke such a critical response? I guess everyone has their priorities, and it's certainly interesting for me to see what types of little and insignificant things provoke the ire of Bernie supporters.
Again, I thank you for brightening my day!

(42,862 posts)I honestly had no idea that Bernie fans were such delicate little flowers. They seem so aggressive and perfectly capable of dishing it out. Who knew that they couldn't take a little light-hearted needling in return. Oh, my!
I'll be on the lookout for similar admonitions from you toward the Bernie supporters as they clutter their posts with rofl's and lol's. It's reassuring to know that we have people such as yourself to help maintain civility and goodwill. You've certainly got your work cut out for you, and going forward I'm sure that I'll soon be seeing examples of your tenacity.
On the subject of Bernie's fans on DU voting for Hillary, I must admit that I have already accepted the fact that they're a lost cause. It's "Bernie or Bust" and they've made that abundantly clear. It's a fools errand to think that "not lol-ing" at the absurdity will change their mind. Fortunately, despite their beliefs, the percentage of Bernie fans who have gathered her don't represent what exists in real life.
Looking at how impressive Hillary's poll number are (and how dismal and lackluster Bernie's are... not to mention the absence of endorsements) I'm afraid I must confess that whether or not they do, or don't, vote for Hillary is of little concern to me. They'll do as they please, and that's fine. I won't flatter their vanities by trying to convince them to do otherwise, nor will I offer them honey when all they have to offer in return is vinegar.
Thanks for writing to me.

Jackie

But I just wish to gawd the Hillary supporter's would wake up and see it would be the same ol crap that Obama disappointed us with. This is no time to be selfish only wanting the first female president.
