2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI listened to Romney's speech so you didn't have to.
In a nutshell:
He never "introduced himself" to the American people like they said he would. Instead, he talked about his dad getting a rose for his mom every day---which is how she discovered he died: she found no rose and went looking for him. Mitt actually choked up saying that.
Then he started in with the $716B cut to medicare lie and that things are not any better today than when Obama was elected lie, etc., etc.
Than he promised he would create 12 million jobs with his "5 point plan" which consisted of nothing but Republican platitudes: 1) School vouchers instead of funding education; 2) drill baby drill; 3) cut regulations and cut taxes for "job creators" (the rich); 4) cut the debt (doesn't specify how); and 5)repeal and replace Obamacare (but does not specify with what).
And that's it. No details, no insight into Romney the man (other than that he may have daddy issues).
It was a big ol' bucket of fail.

(13,141 posts)I'm searching for an adjective to describe the look Mitt always
has on his face, when he does that thing, tips his head to the
side and looks a little sheepish and askance.
For a long time it seemed it was "I'm a nice guy" going on
in his brain, but now I think there's something more grandiose.

(62,683 posts)that look on his face! He reminds me of me when I'm lying but trying to convince someone I'm sincere.

(14,177 posts)I really couldn't stomach the convention none of it. But, Mitt would have been the worst. I heard they had Eastwood for comic relief though and a moment with Tan Mom Brewer. But, it just looked like a bag full of cats on meth to me. They seemed to pack in more lies in 3 days than Nixon did in his presidency. I guess that is a talent of sorts. Anyway, I would rec a million times if I could, just because of your bravery.

(3,165 posts)the GOP to give a damn what they have to say...I didn't even watch Eastwood's ramblings, though I've been hearing about it...
Only in the debates will i watch Romney - i will never watch one of his campaign events...
The only thing i REALLY want to see is Romney's concession speech

(22,000 posts)you saved me from having to heave through his speech. That would have been painful.

(10,952 posts)There is no doubt in my mind that Romney wants to take this country to war. The only question will be against how many opponents. He wants to rev up the Cold War with Russia. He wants to put China in its place. And of course he wants to go against Iran. It will take a lot of war to generate 12 million jobs - soldiers, morticians and in the Defense Industry. All this from a man from a family that has avoided military service.

(51,550 posts)And I think he's just parroting McCain when it comes to Iran. But he does seem to be genuinely nostalgic for the Cold War. That black and white world is something he understands. He grew up with the Cold War. That was his daddy's war (even though he never fought either). He's like Dubya, he wants to finish a war his dad left not quite done. I swear, I think his whole motivation in life is to one up his dad (what I meant above by his daddy issues). Starting with being richer than his dad, then getting the Republican nomination his dad never could. OK, Mitt, you got the nomination. Now would please go back to your yacht, the Cracker or whatever it is called, and leave us alone?
