Rand Paul event went so far as to say that republicans need to realize that not every dime of military spending is neccesary.

Wanna have some fun with your Republican friends? Tell them Mitt never served in the military. When they say neither did Obama, tell them they are wrong, he has served for over 3 1/2 years and has held the rank of Commander in Chief.

Seriously tho, hardly anything was mentioned about the wars, our troops, or military spending. Stuff that was mostly all Dubya's doing -- wouldn't want to remind people of THAT!

5. They promised not to cut military spending. Millions of jobs, y'know.

They criticized President Obama on being to diplomatic to Iran, turning his back on Israel when it comes to the "Palestinian problem" and Settlements, and a nebulous "Syria needs help being more Democratic" (i.e. Western Capitalist-friendly) - which is strange because that's not assured if Assad goes - look at Egypt.
Also - the President isn't hard enough with China and Putin disrespects us. America needs to be able to take on the "Big Jobs".

The take-away from the Republican Convention that I saw (from the perspective of a retired "Cold Warrior&quot is:
We should return to the Cold War era military culture and show both Putin and Dong who's really the boss. We should give Isreal more lip-service here in the States. Iran should be de-nuked. Saddam - err - Assad needs to be overthrown and a US-friendly puppet installed as a Democratic Leader (I wonder who that would be?).
Afghanistan will become business as usual. Heck, there's tons of money being made there, and it's a good place to send our extra young men who can't get jobs in the states anyway ( )

We are the Great American Empire, Damn it, and American Exceptionalism is always our motto. Disaster Capitalism at it's finest - the majority of us are going to be told we remain "Free" as the country slips into a Plutocratic feudalism, where we end up working and fighting for the corporate masters who will control our very means of living in every area - what we eat, where we sleep, how much education we are allowed, what we can spend and how we spend it, where we can go, what politics and religion we are allowed to espouse.
