(41,600 posts)I thought he explained it very well and in a way everyone could understand. And he did it by using parts of his stump speech as examples. Great speech, wonderful Q & A afterwards.

(11,843 posts)I have been noticing this pattern for several weeks, where titles for (mostly) Pro Sanders posts have a word or two in all caps.
"Bernie Sanders Delivers REMARKS On Democratic Socialism At Georgetown University"
"Hillary Is Already TRIANGULATING Against Liberals"
"NYT Responds On DEAL With Conservative Writer For CLINTON DIRT"
"Here's WHAT WE GET With TPP!"
What purpose do you feel it serves?

(11,785 posts)You know, the sort of statements where every fifth word is capitalized.
Segami
(14,923 posts)Just curious?
Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)Feels like a text version of Tourette's to me. If the question bothers you tell me to mind my own business, and I'll just assume you talk that way, shouting random words.
Segami
(14,923 posts)that I need to address the way that I choose to post my titles. Am I breaking board rules? No. Am I insulting or attacking a DU member? No. Yet, many others before you have used the same 'CAPS' or 'SHOUTING' query excuse to distract or hijack the posted threads. Their intention was never to participate or comment on the posted article......
Shout??.....I doubt it......If I wanted to shout, I would have CAPITALIZED the whole header on EVERY post.....so, it might be for other reasons such as eyesight,......but that never entered other people's mind for one second since they were all too self-consumed to trash talk, laugh & insult......
is that ok?...
Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)You can type anyway you choose, I was just wondering if you thought it served a purpose.
Segami
(14,923 posts)Did you not understand my explanation? Is that not enough information for you to process?
Did I mention anywhere in my response that my reason had something to do with "talking out loud" or is that your own extended embellishment?
Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)You can type any way you choose. I can have any opinion on what it looks like to me.
Segami
(14,923 posts)but you can't start lobbing speculative falsehoods about a poster just because your brain has processed a lame theory about the poster using caps in their header........enough said!

(11,843 posts)For all I know, you speak like a Monty Python Gumbi, or speak like a radio announcer. Doesn't matter in the least.

Major Hogwash
(17,656 posts)You'd rather focus on the use of capital letters in the title of the OP rather than discuss the content of the OP.
What the fuck!?!
I think this is one of the biggest reasons behind why America finds itself fucked today, with the Republicans in control of Congress . . democrats just can't stay focused on an issue longer than a few minutes.
Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)Kind of hypocritical on your part.
Hope it made you feel better to swear at me. Have a nice day.
Major Hogwash
(17,656 posts)Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)Why don't you add some posts, like you were so worked up about?
I was worried that you were having an awful day, your language seemed to indicate that.
JDPriestly
(57,936 posts)I'm liberal. I don't like rigid, unwieldy, REACTIONARY rules.
I like freedom. I like self-expression. I like creativity. I like both capital and small letters. What in the world is this nonsense about?
When people can't complain about the substance they focus on some minor aspect of the form and complain about that. Puzzles me. I just love the conversation.
Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)I was curious as to if there was a purpose. It appears that there is not, it is a just an affectation of the person that I asked about it. Like ee cummings occasionally wrote in all lower case. There was a poster, like a decade ago, who choose to use no punctuation. Unlike Segami, that person was generally an ass.
I'm frankly surprised at the number of people that seem to fell so strongly about it.
Simple question, simple answer.
It doesn't mean anything.
senz
(11,945 posts)There's no reason to say things like that about another commenter.
Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)I asked Segami a question, got an answer and for some reason, you feel the need to weigh in.
Have a nice evening.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)written is more important to me than what is in the OP.
I don't know why you think that a question about an odd style of writing has any bearing on the importance of the title versus text of a post.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)The question has nothing to do with the OP, hence the "out of curiosity". The question was not directed to you, you weighed in with an irrelevant comment. I believe I have explained that it is merely a question about odd capitalization.
I'm assuming that Segami doesn't need you to explain.

(14,195 posts)And the fact you kept replying even after it was explained, and called out the OP with the suggestion they had tourettes.... Poor form.
Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)I did not say that the OP had it. As for hijacking, the swarming crowds apparently eager to weigh in are the one's conducting the "hijacking". I asked a question of the OP, got an answer, and really don't understand why any one else cares. Including you.
Poor form? Check out a mirror.

(57,936 posts)I love the use of CAPS for emphasis and to express emotion.
It' s a matter of taste. I think they are great.
Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)Was hoping that there was a rational answer, but it appears there isn't. Just my $0.02
JDPriestly
(57,936 posts)I find the question to be irrational. It's a matter of taste, as I said.
I like the mixture of caps and small letters. But then, I like jazz and the unexpected and self-expression and freedom, which many people abhor.
Picasso loved a mess. Who cares? I don't.
Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)At least I had curiosity( and really didn't care that much), but you seem to care very much for some reason.
Don't worry, you can put some jazz on (some jazz is OK, free form shit is a musical migraine to me) and relax. No one is saying there are any rules being enforced. Every one is free to have any sort of affectation they choose and every one else if free to think what they want about it.

(57,936 posts)Americans really get the fact that Wall Street, the 1%, the CEOs of large companies, the outsourcing, the removal of our jobs to cheap labor countries, all of the evils that are going on and that the candidates who get money from the crooks on Wall Street, the 1% and the CEOs of large companies dare not mention lest their campaign funds dwindle. I hope Bernie keeps repeating it for however long it takes for the American fools who chase after glitzy candidates with their empty minds and their vapid, meaningless rhetoric finally get it: we need a lot of reform in this country starting with our campaign finance system.

(2,101 posts)That Sanders attempt to use fire and police departments to define democratic socialism does not sit well with Professor Markovits.
If he were to write this on an exam for me? Thats an F, Markovits said.
Sanders has also cited Denmark as a place where democratic socialism has worked.
That gets a rise out of Professor Goldman. With apologies to Shakespeare, he said theres something rotten in Sanders assertions about the state of Denmark.
I would not call that socialism, he said.
From NPR Marketplace. Sure to be very popular on this thread.

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University has announced it will rename two buildings that had been named for school presidents who organized the sale of slaves to help pay off campus debt in the 1830s.
The Washington Post reports university President John J. DeGioia sent an email to the Georgetown community Saturday evening saying he was changing the names based on a recommendation from his Working Group on Slavery, Memory and Reconciliation.
{snip}
Student leaders had organized demonstrations and sit-ins over the building names, the Post reports. A Georgetown senior who helped organize the protests said activists "used the momentum" from student protests on other campuses to build support.

About the speech, I'm glad he gave it, though it sounds kind of light on theory.

(14,459 posts)It confirms what most of us have been saying to the red baiters as well- This is not big "S" Socialism he is offering. It is capitalism with support for normal people built in.
I'll support that as a stopgap, but the people fighting against Burnie make the most eloquent case against Capitalism there is- if what he's talking about is too much to ask(and it's really very little), then our system must really suck for providing what everyone needs.
