Iowa ISU Poll -- HC: 49.5% BS: 27.8%

AMES, Iowa – If the Iowa Caucuses were held this month, 27.2 percent of Republicans likely to attend would support Ben Carson, and 49.5 percent of Democrats likely to attend would favor Hillary Clinton. That’s according to a new Iowa State University/WHO-HD caucus poll out today.

Respondents who said they would probably attend the Democratic caucuses were asked, “If you had to decide today, which of the candidates seeking the nomination for president would be your first choice?” After Clinton, Bernie Sanders came in a distant second (27.8 percent), “don’t know” third (13.7 percent) and “other” fourth (6.3 percent).

<snip>

The contest for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination delegates in Iowa seems to have settled down to being in Hillary Clinton’s favor, barring some major personal or policy issue arising between now and Feb. 1,” said Mack Shelley, University Professor and chair of political science and professor of statistics. “Another consideration for the Democratic caucuses is that it’s not clear at this time whether there could be a surge of support from younger, and particularly first-time, potential caucus attenders, who are likely to support Bernie Sanders. If the Sanders campaign can galvanize young voters and have a strong organization on the ground to get their supporters to the caucuses, the results may look different on Feb. 1.”

<snip>

“Hillary Clinton, with nearly 50 percent support, appears to have a tight grip on the Iowa Caucuses. Bernie Sanders may have reached his ceiling of support in Iowa at just under 30 percent, unless he can persuade an influx of young voters, and those who have not attended a caucus previously, to turn out on Feb. 1. Interestingly, Martin O’Malley’s support is largely invisible, even after the most recent Democratic debate held in Des Moines,” McCormick said.

From the article:

................Honesty wins

Survey respondents chose “honest and trustworthy” (38 percent) as the leading trait they seek when deciding to support a presidential candidate, followed by “takes strong stands” (20.8 percent), “cares about people” (17 percent) and “has the right experience” (16 percent). The least frequently selected reason for choosing a candidate, other than “don’t know” (3.7 percent) was whether or not the candidate “can win the election” at 10.7 percent.

***Note the paragraph entitles "Honesty wins"

"Survey respondents chose “honest and trustworthy” (38 percent) as the leading trait they seek when deciding to support a presidential candidate,...." and nearly 50% chose CLINTON. All these months of calling her a liar did not work!!!

She has been in Iowa a lot--interacted with people face to face during her listening tours and smaller town halls. Her strategy worked.

The last time I heard Bernie Sanders was gonna hit his ceiling soon, he was 15 percent nationally, and it was claimed 25 percent was the limit.

Look where he is now! Almost 35 percent nationally! Almost 30 percent in Iowa! And he will continue to gain on Hillary. This corporate tactic of subtly pushing Hillary on the American people failed against Obama, and it will likely fail again!

So to all Sanders supporters, keep fighting the good fight! Bernie 2016!

Where IHateTheGOP apparently told us that continuing to support Sanders would mean a President Rubio. What exactly is the point of a primary if people are told they can't support their own candidate unless they want a GOP president?

after the primary, the demographics favor the Democratic candidate.

I don't see how having the primary will result in a President Rubio.

So many other pro-Bernie ones out there you could have started with. You might want to head over to the Bernie group initially.. you will find more people of like minds there and wont have to deal with posts that might be painful to a Bernie supporter.

Cheers!

Thanks Bob for the kind words of welcome, I will check out the threads you mentioned.

I just want to reply to you though that I love debate with supporters of all other candidates but especially Hillary supporters. I find we are very close in our ideas, so debate is a given, and in fact I believe these discussions no matter how ugly are one of the ways that people can realize the differences between Hillary and Bernie. I will gladly do my best to encourage Hillary supporters to think about supporting Bernie.

And of course I'm open to being convinced about Hillary, but knowing the facts about Bernie, I'm very much supportive of his campaign right now

My concern is that they are missing out on supporting a fantastic candidate who actually will be great defender of the most critical things they hold dear.

Either they do not exist, or they do not know about the internet. Which is it?

Ironically though, they all seem to own landlines. And they all magically seem to find their way to corporate commissioned polls! It's amazing!
