Related: About this forumHillary Clinton will hit Omaha, stump with Warren Buffett in December
Hillary Clinton is not taking Nebraska for granted.
The Democratic presidential front-runner will be stumping in Omaha on Dec. 16, with the help of famed Omaha investor Warren Buffett.
A Clinton campaign staffer said the visit is an effort to organize grassroots support before Nebraskas Democratic caucuses.
She is also expected to talk about tax reform with Buffett, who has called for an income tax increase on the nations wealthier citizens.
Iowa holds the nations first presidential test Feb. 1, but Nebraska Democrats follow a little less than a month later on March 5.

(30,058 posts)The polls. Because of her experience in foreign affairs she is not having to spend her time traveling to get some experience so she can devote her time working the campaign. Because she has worked to assist POC over the years she is not having to visit MLK grave because she has worked in the years in the past. Because she worked with members of congress in the past she has thier endorsements from the members.

Wait. I just read the par about Buffett rallying grass roots support. Stop. This is splitting my sides.

(2,074 posts)you can compare the two campaigns by saying that Bernie has Killer Mike on his side, and Hillary as Michael Eric Dyson on her side.
See how that works?
Besides, Warren Buffet is hardly any old billionaire. He's pretty progressive for an old dude with a mountain of money. He wants taxes to be raised on himself, for example. And he lives in a fairly moderate house.

(2,605 posts)what he and his "soaking in wealth" friends will pay in additional taxes is inconsequential compared to the damage he is doing investing in Tar Sands spewing Suncor.
Hillary will tell him to "cut it out", no doubt, eh?

(2,605 posts)A key climate change conference is scheduled to take place in Paris from November 30 to December 11. What are its aims and what do you think will be accomplished upon its conclusion?
The Paris climate change conference (COP21) is indeed key because the existing Kyoto mandatory emission limits expire this coming December (2015), even while the Kyoto Protocol itself continues to be international law and in fact, enters its second period. The aim of the Paris climate conference should be to reach an agreement among nations for mandatory emission caps, but it is doubtful that this goal will be realized.
In preparation for COP21, the nations of the world were asked to each provide their voluntary emission caps. They fell short. Voluntary proposals are insufficient to avert catastrophic climate change. We are rapidly approaching a precipice, since there are irreversible changes - for example, the melting of Greenland and of the polar caps - that occur once we exceed 2 [degree] Celsius increase in temperature and cannot be reversed for centuries since, once emitted, carbon dioxide stays in the atmosphere for hundreds of years. This catastrophic scenario will happen now unless we actually remove existing carbon from the atmosphere. Mandatory emissions [limits] are critical, yet the US continues to be strongly opposed to this approach.
Are you optimistic about humanity's adeptness to deal with the looming climate catastrophe and to avert an ecological disaster?
I believe it is possible for humans to resolve the climate change issue. We have the resources, the technology and even the institutions needed to do it. In that sense, I am optimistic. But I am not optimistic on the timing since humans are very slow to deal with change. The problem is potentially catastrophic and we are running out of time.

The poll's an old one, but there's nothing to indicate he's any less popular now.

(1,209 posts)for expanding E.I.T.C. instead of a minimum wage increase, meaning he wants the taxpayer pick up the tab for the low paying employers, like All the corporate agriculture, all those huge retailers, all hotel, restaurant and fast food chain workers. By calling for expansion of E.I.T.C. Buffett wants more workers paid less than enough to live on instead of mandating living wage. Remember since E.I.T.Cis not enough, the food supplement program had to be updated and increased as well. Strange isn't it that these programs, both a product of Republican Administrations are called liberal.
Crazy that the very libertarian Warren Buffett is considered liberal for making the simple statement that the Republicans were holding the nation hostage back during the crazy insane pet food commission budget fight.
