Robert Sobel
The 2012 presidential election is less than one year away and tempers are flying high in the Republican primary. With superpacs spending an unlimited amount of money, the negative ads on television, radio and throughout the internet are overwhelming Americans across the country. As Republicans are poised to remove President Obama from office, President Obama is just waiting for his challenger to so he can plan his political attack. While both sides take their shots at each other, the American people are starting to form their own opinion.
According to a recent poll by pollposition.com, 53% of all Americans believe that President Obama will be re-elected in November's election, while only 40% say he won't be. A surprising statistic from the survey comes from President Obama's home base, the Democratic party. 88% of all Democrats in the survey said that President Obama will be re-elected compared to only 5% who say he won't be and 7% who were undecided. Many have accused President Obama of losing his base, but it doesn't seem like he has. Republicans who were surveyed weren't so optimistic. 69% of all Republicans didn't think President Obama would be elected, but 21% do. The biggest factor in the survey is among independents, the most important group in a general election. Of the independents surveyed, 52% said President Obama would be elected, compared to only 40% who don't think he will be.

If President Obama is to win re-election in 2012 he needs to do many things. Two of those things is to keep his base excited and to win independents. Though we are still many months away from the election kicking into high gear, these early signs are positive news for the current president.
