Hillary nothing but a Pale Shade in the Brilliant Light of Sanders Progressive Plans

Last edited Wed Dec 2, 2015, 03:01 PM - Edit history (1)

Since both candidates announced their candidacy, Hillary has done nothing but follow Bernie Sanders campaign and echo his policy with grand-stand announcements of extremely watered down versions. The only time she has lead Sanders on anything was when she was messing up with BLM. She beat him to the punch on offending them, but took much longer for her to finally sit down and meet with them. And as we'll see below, they weren't impressed with her...

Hillary's plans, often far weaker and offering no real meaningful change, are defended by her supporters under the guise of pragmatism. Where have we heard that before?... If you want a president that won't get much done and allow things like Citizens United to stand, then by all means support Clinton. But if you want real change and a chance to make the lives of the 99% better, then Sanders plan is the only one to do that.

Judge for yourself if these issues are what you believe in. I know where I stand. I know Sanders represents me.

Here is a timeline (with references) of when the candidates announced on most of the big campaign issues (note that many times, Hillary took months to announce her version of Sanders plans):

of course us people who have to work for a living just see her as "copying a stronger candidate who knows what America needs, but who'll easily reverse every promise" and "sucking up to Wall Street, who'd kill our job, steal our pension, and take our house if they could, and they HAVE done so for millions"

You left that out.

It could be that the average voter isn't as concerned with finding the ideal liberal candidate as some feel. Alien as that may seem to many, moderates in each party are the ones who elect our presidents, and they always have.

If "liberal" wasn't such an off-putting word to so many voters, the word progressive would be unnecessary. As it is, you were careful to use it in describing Sanders' positions. Now let's poll "socialist" and see how that plays in Peoria.

Obama won in '08 because Bush tarnished his party so badly and because some idiot thought Sarah Palin would neuter a possible run by Hillary.

to never change her positions over moral or intellectual reasons. She will only do so (and even then reluctantly) when a three forcus groups and five polls tell her it is imperative to abandon a twenty year old "article of corporate faith".

She is, and always has been, a follower. That's why she voted for Iraq, just following where W and his massively overcompensating armysexuality led the way to a complete clusterf*ck. That's why she listens first and formost to her big donors, while paying lipservice to the smaller ones. That's why she invoked 9/11 when questioned about her Wall Street ties: if it worked for the GOP, she might as well borrow a page out of their book. And on and on and on...

never seen a single post on DU about turning a seat around in any state. It's all on one person as usual. Bernie can do it all alone, and his coattails will bring in a progressive Congress! Our system is not like that. It has competing interests and no one has enough mesmerizing ability to get their own way. In fact, that's the whole point of our system.

It's so much simpler to think one person can be the overall Messiah and we don't have to worry about all those elections and that some of them are in red states where it's hard to get progressives. Much easier to believe Bernie will take the world by storm so that Alabama voters will go "yeah!" and vote for Bernie and some Progressive Democratic Senators and Congresspeople.

First- where has this bill gone? How close is it coming to becoming a law? It's pure bullshit. The current congress, nor any potential version based on the candidates running in the states having 2016 elections are going to push that through.. As I said, hyperbolic bullshit and either Mr. Burns is delusional or a disingenuous liar. It's not a possibility.

get the tiniest thing. The people want more regulations on wall street and corporations and less regulations on the people. I bet they'd sure like to know that about now.

In the last 8 years of President Obama:
ACA
Rejected Keystone
ex convicts can no longer be denied employment in federal jobs.
first openly gay secretary of the army appointed.
DOMA- gone (more of a DoJ issue, but a Republican would have fought it hard. Obama's AG was sympathetic.
DADT - gone
Transgender Americans may not be discriminated against by health insurance companies or medical providers
New Medicare formula changes the way doctors are reimbursed; rewards doctors when their patients have better health outcomes
President Obama issues executive order allowing the parents of children who are U.S. citizens or legal residents to continue residing in the United States
China and the United States agree to cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to twenty-five percent by 2030
Minimum wage for Federal Contractors raised to $10.10 per hour.
President Obama and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani have first formal communication between the two nations in 35 years
American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 signed into law

More? Quit letting the hyperbole bullshit of those who have cherry-picked the few bad compromises (and I'll concede there are some) paint the whole picture for you.

Yes, some shit was accepted, but overall the last 8 years WAS progress. Some of it tainted with compromises, and not all of them good.

And there is the big difference between the 2 candidates. Clinton doesn't make the same promises as Sanders.. not because she doesn't believe in the same things he does.. She knows what can and can not be accomplished.

There is NO Senate in the works for this next congress, nor is there ANY House make up that will make Sanders policies reality. So, he will either be completely worthless as a president grinding our system of government to a halt, OR he will learn to compromise to make things happen and for some progress.. the same flawed progress.. to happen. It's a bitter pill, but that is reality.

Wed Dec 2, 2015, 09:49 PM

The devoted of Sanders confuse me with the continuous flip-flopping.

She's this huge political insider and part of this grand secret world order society of power players who is buying the Oligarchy that is the presidency one minute.. but the next she will accomplish nothing.

The whole strawman hyperbolic bullshit title of Oligarchy is of course ridiculous, but one point that the opponents here do have is that she IS a political insider. In case some missed the memo, this IS still a "Representative Republic", which means that the President is NOT an all powerful Despot. Personally I would rather a president that is capable of actually getting things done (i.e. an insider) rather than a Muppet curmudgeon heckling from the Balcony completely impotent to effect anything.

On edit: before someone has a stroke over "impotent" I'm referring to his politics not his penis. I'd think the subject matter would make that clear, but I know how Mr. Burns followers just love to take everything out of context and stretch it as much as possible to find addition insult where none is made.

Dec 2015

We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
The waiter brought a tray

[Chorus]
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

She said, there is no reason
And the truth is plain to see.
But I wandered through my playing cards
And would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open
They might have just as well've been closed

[Chorus]
And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

She said, I'm home on shore leave,
Though in truth we were at sea
So I took her by the looking glass
And forced her to agree
Saying, you must be the mermaid
Who took neptune for a ride.
But she smiled at me so sadly
That my anger straightway died
