Conservatives off TV in Michigan and Pennsylvania

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Mitt Romney's allies have pulled their advertising from Pennsylvania and Michigan while redoubling efforts in other battleground states. The move indicates that at least for now, efforts by outside groups to help Romney compete in more states have stalled.

The pro-Romney groups American Crossroads and Americans for Prosperity are pouring nearly $13 million into advertising in key states, indicating they remain eager to lend considerable financial muscle to Romney in states viewed as truly competitive.

There are no presidential campaign ads of any kind currently airing in Pennsylvania and Michigan, according to information provided by media trackers to The Associated Press. While the Romney campaign has spent almost no money on advertising in either state, conservative groups have spent $20 million on ads for him in Pennsylvania and have spent $8 million on ads in Michigan.

Independent groups have been helping Romney to stay competitive with Obama on the air as the former Massachusetts governor regroups to raise money for the final weeks before the campaign. Romney's campaign coffers were severely depleted after a bruising primary fight, forcing a greater reliance on these conservative super PACs and other groups to get their message out.

If Romney ends the campaign with money in the bank to run again the entire Republican Party will turn on him like nothing we have seen.

I'm seeing very few Rmoney ads but plenty of Congressional ads right now. I'm assuming the GOP is worried that Rmoney could take the House down with him in November.

I just noticed last night that there weren't as many. For about a month, it was relentless. Almost every single commercial on network TV was an anti-Obama ad, nastier & nastier. Now I'm actually seeing car commercials again. Never thought I'd be so happy about that.

Why?

It's pretty clearly Obama (80% in the Silver model).

And even if it isn't what will the 4 EVs do for them? No offense intended.

And finally, aren't some of the media buys for NH pretty expensive BOS market buys?

Most of the ads I've seen are on WMUR (ABC), our only major league TV station. Rove and the boys dump some serious loot into our local races, as well - and our NH House Speaker, "Bully" O'Brien, is f'n owned and operated by ALEC.

Obama is up to around 241 EVs with 16 more (WI+NV) looking very secure. And with Goode on the ballot in VA that pretty much seals up another 13 for the POTUS.

Doing the Arithmetic that's 270 EVs. So how on earth can rMoney win? I don't see a path to victory for the dark side.

I think there are 538 total EC votes available. So the tie is at 269.

Michigan's over, too. As somebody said upthread, when McCain pulled out of Michigan in OCTOBER of 08, it was a huge deal (Palin's people made some noises about being upset over it). Romney's ditching Michigan (his home state, mind you) in September. Romney's main difficulty this week is that Ohio looks to be going the way of Pennsylvania and Michigan, and just needs a tip. Its dynamics are a mix of the two, with a massive auto industry workforce mirroring Michigan, and infrastructure and agriculture dynamics mirroring PA. Obama has done the state well in all these areas.

And then what for Mitt? He thinks he's going to pile up New Hampshires and Iowas to make up for Ohio?

The Big Money is going to start hedging on the top ticket race real soon, if they haven't already. That means cash influxes to the Obama coffers and retreat from Mittens. You'll also see a big focus on down ticket starting from the Dems. I think we already got a taste of this in Clinton's speech.

they ought to be. They can't come back there. Even voter suppression won't help in PA.

They have a shot at FL, but that won't be enough. They absolutely need to win 4 out of 5 of FL, OH, VA, NV and IA and it just ain't there. And they probably have to tip WI and maybe NH even at that.

But with Constitution Party candidate Goode on the ballot in VA, OBAMA has like an 8 point lead in the polling.

With recent polls showing Obama over 50% and up by 7% in Michigan, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the state conceded. With the auto industry loan success, it was always going to be a tough slog for Romney. The money exodus is just acknowledging that it will be impossible.
