http://dailycaller.com/2015/12/06/exclusive-major-clinton-donor-faces-criminal-profiteering-charges/The irony of this story is that an innocent woman was killed by the abusive practices of a Clinton Foundation donor whose donation went to the foundations "No Ceilings" project to help at-risk women and girls.
And before anyone complains about the source, just google the source at this site... this source is heavily cited on DU. The article is accurate and factual, or I wouldn't have posted it.
Washington State Superior Court Judge Dean Lum agreed Oct. 30 that Wyss, a Swiss billionaire who has given more than $5 million to the Clinton Foundation, can stand trial under the states racketeering laws for leading a criminal enterprise that caused the death of Reba Golden. She died during an illegal drug test conducted by Wysss company in 2007.
The Washington suit charges Wyss, the former CEO of a Pennsylvania-based medical device company called Synthes and his co-defendants with murder in the second degree as a class A felony, second degree assault and criminal profiteering under the Washington Criminal Profiteering Act.
Wyss faces a statutory civil penalty of $250,000 for each violation, amounting to $9.2 million for personal injury to and death of Mrs. Golden. He is charged in 37 violations.
...snip...
...snip...
Last December, the Clinton Foundation accepted a $5 million commitment from Wyss. When he headed the Center for American Progress, Podesta accepted millions from Wyss and put him on CAPs board of directors. Podesta personally was a paid consultant to Wyss private foundation.
Also embarrassing for Clinton is that Wyss donation was dedicated to the foundations No Ceilings project to help at-risk girls and women. Wyss has been the subject of multiple allegations of sexual abuse and settled one case for $1.5 million with Jackie Long, a Colorado woman who once was an employee at a Wyss private foundation.

(15,438 posts)That so-called Sanders supporters are using the Republican tactic of smearing a Clinton with something that has NOTHING to do with them didn't work back then and it ain't gonna work now. So how about we drop that b.s.? It makes Sanders supporters look desperate.

(15,438 posts)The GOP is terrified that Hillary Clinton will win the primaries because Republican operatives know she'll go on to win the White House with strong coattails for the House and Senate.
Whether they realize it or not, some Sanders supporters (if they really are Sanders supporters, that is) around here are not helping the Democratic Party. They're helping the GOP with OPs like this and hurting Bernie Sanders.
randys1
(16,286 posts)here have been.
It is equally insane to silence Bernie fans, unless those fans are constantly bashing Hillary and often using unreliable sources to do that.
As a Bernie supporter I am incapable of supporting him and bashing her at the same time, like Bernie I know the consequences of such actions.
BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)As a Bernie supporter I am incapable of supporting him and bashing her at the same time, like Bernie I know the consequences of such actions.
I don't care for any "bashing" of Sanders, either, although I understand why some do. It's usually in retaliation of being attacked or some false piece of gossip against Hillary Clinton, rather than stating the facts.
But I always keep in mind that Sanders is on our side, and if he wins the primary, I want to be able to happily and enthusiastically canvass, donate, and vote for him in the G.E., and I can't do that if I dislike him. It's just the way I'm wired.
Am I critical of him? Of course. But I stick to the facts, and I pertinently refuse to smear him with right-wing propaganda. Although some deny it, he IS a Democrat and has been almost right after he came to DC. He votes 98% with Democrats - a voting record that's better than many Democrats who ran as and call themselves Democrats - Manchin, Lieberman, Landrieu, and Webb come to mind here.
I'm happy to know you think the way I do about this although we're supporting different candidates in the primary.

(60,765 posts)I doubt there is a politician in the country who has never been embarrassed by a former donor. There are many many cases - on both sides of the aisle - of politicians donating to charity or returning donations of someone at a point where they are caught having done something wrong.
At worse that is likely what this could end up being. As long as we have a system where someone wanting to run for office needs to solicit donations -- it will continue. Getting big money out of politics would help - but there will still be small donations from people who no one later would want their name associated with.

(28,749 posts)That goes for Bernie, Hillary, or even O'Malley.
We are going down memory lane here... But I lived in VT for about 10 years and I have actually had the pleasure of volunteering, voting for, and meeting Semator Sanders more than once. He even came and spoke at a meeting we had on campus when I was attending school there, it was really cool and I learned a lot.
I know it's apparently "fun" to think everyone has an ulterior motive, but some of us don't. Some of us just post here, and have no connections outside DU on Facebook or alternate websites... We are just here and yet we get cast as having ridiculous motives with every post we make.
It's fine clearly if I could handle the name calling, or mocking, or accusations of month long webs of lies, I wouldn't be here. But I can, so here I am, still.

The link to Clinton from The Daily Caller is not.

(3,960 posts)I think the point of digging it up again is that the Clinton Foundation has accepted contributions SINCE the criminal charges occurred.
I'm not sure that is particularly terrible. Indeed, the accusation that Wyss' company engaged in gangsterism seems a little questionable to me. Testing a procedure on human subjects who have little to lose may not be such a terrible thing in itself -- but it is illegal, and the coverup makes it look much worse.
And is it wrong to accept contributions for a charitable cause from a felon?
Anyway, the right will use it against Clinton, and Democrats need to be aware of that -- especially pro-Hillary Dems -- and the right response is not to condemn the source (which does smell) but to consider the consequences.

Money in Politics IS THE PROBLEM.

(150,527 posts)Really. How odd. Someone donated money to a foundation, which had no idea that anything untoward was going on. So, now, there's a court case about something that happened with that being connected to the donor. How does Hillary Clinton have anything to do with this?
This is the weakest kind of way to attempt to attack a political candidate. I think it's embarrassing that it would appear on DU.
You might want to consider self-deleting this OP.

(30,500 posts)There are thousands of people alive today who wouldn't be if the Foundation hadn't managed to establish a new pricing scale for AZTs that reduced the price of the medication by hundreds of dollars and made it accessible to most people. They have been commended by the WHO and other international organizations for their work in the field of treatment of HIV patients in Africa and elsewhere.
Wyss may have turned out to be a crook, but I'm sure that the $5M he donated to the Foundation were put to good use.
BTW, donating to the Clinton Foundation is not kin to donating to the Hillary for president campaign, don't conflate the two.

It'll get some legs but I doubt much. Depends on who knew what when ,etc. I don't think it's likely to stick as long as a contribution to Clinton Foundation is all that's involved

Jurors need to start voting to hide these threads if posters aren't going to have the decency to delete the links.
If the story is legit it will be covered by a non-right wing source.
Eta: Any HC supporter who rec'd Maggie's thread and helped put it on the greatest page has no right to complain about this one.
If you reward people who cite racist tea party websites like progressivestoday you're just as guilty - so stop whinging about this one because it's anti-Hillary.
