Related: About this forumObama and Clinton have another secret lunch

"When their schedules permit, President Obama and Secretary Clinton enjoy the opportunity to catch-up in person," White House press secretary Josh Earnest said. "This afternoon they met privately for an informal lunch here at the White House for about an hour and a half."
The meeting came only hours after Obama delivered a major address on ISIS from the Oval Office, though the White House declined to say whether the President discussed his anti-terror strategy with his former secretary of state.

(100,133 posts)...actually grasp the difference?
It seems to me that a Private meeting is one that is on the calendar and everyone knows it is taking place, but just the two of them (and the waiter) are there.
But a Secret meeting would probably involve someone arriving heavily cloaked at the back entrance and not appearing on the calendar, with much precautions taken that it appear it never took place at all.
Does that seem like a reasonable distinction?
Having said that, every damn time someone breathlessly announces that HRC or PBO have had a SECRET MEETING (oooh, Caps Lock is fun), it turns out that everyone knows about it and that photos were taken of the arrival and departure.
So where's the secret? Or are certain people just engaging in poutrage because they were not invited?

Good explanation between private and secret meets, Hekate. They did not have it on their calendars but they did have Lunch for 90 minutes!

(6,309 posts)....but I think you have me wrong. I am a Hillary supporter and you ask what's the secret. I was just pointing out that since no one knows what was discussed, that is just as good as a secret. Personally, I hope he leaned over, looked both ways, and said quietly, " relax, you got this."
Doesn't bother me in the least that I wasn't invited. I trust her and President Obama.

I've watched her career since Bill first ran for POTUS, and she has intelligence, strength, stamina, experience, education, spine, and the ability to hold her head high no matter what. Her enemies try to twist her words and qualities and behavior, but as with the Benghazi hearings, she emerges whole.
Obama trusted her capabilities enough to appoint her SoS, and they became true friends. That is a hell of an endorsement.
