Related: About this forumObama was at the climate change talks in Paris. Managed to talk about the terrorist attacks in San
Bernardino and ISIS even though climate change was the focus.
This shows that a President needs to be prepared to discuss any issue at any time.

(18,402 posts)at any given time. And to respond to questions from the fourth estate, whether "on topic" or not. There's a way to dispense with superfluous questions with a quick answer and a pivot, if necessary. But wagging fingers and angry voices will not be seen as presidential. A president must deal with all the issues of the nation, long-term things like poverty and discrimination, and shorter-term things like geopolitical conflict or newsworthy events.
A president must show both command (of subject) and control (of self). Like it or not, voters really do care about things like demeanor. Of course, there will always be a vocal minority that cheers on anger and loudness, because they think it helps a cause. It doesn't. Anger is okay when you are in the position of protester; it must be dispensed sparingly, and only when necessary, when you are a leader.
