Bernie Sanders may not be the hippest of presidential hopefuls but his newest supporter should earn him some street cred. Rapper Bun B endorsed the Vermont senator for president in a conversation with Fat Tony and Mark Sonzala during the recent premiere of Sonzala's Hip Hop for Bernie Sanders podcast, Billboard reports.

The outspoken MC announced that he was backing Sanders, saying, "[Being a part of this podcast] also gives me an opportunity to let other people know from the hip-hop community that it's okay to start voicing your opinion about a candidates."
"I keep hearing a lot of people saying like, 'Well the election's not coming till next year so it's all good' but it's important to start stating your opinion and choosing a side very early because everybody needs numbers now," Bun continues. "These people need their supporters to stand up for them now."

I'll never be afraid to show who I stand with and what I stand for. I'll never be afraid to choose a side. They don't scare me 1 bit.

Bun B isn't the only member of the hip-hop community who's standing up for Sanders. He joins rappers Killer Mike, Lil B and Scarface in publicly backing the Democratic hopeful. Killer Mike even spoke at Sanders rally in Atlanta last month.
"In my heart of hearts, I truly believe that Senator Bernie Sanders is the right man to lead this country," he added, urging the crowd to, "Make sure that wherever you go, you take the name, the ideas, the philosophy, and the ideology of Bernie Sanders there."
"And you make sure when you leave, they are on fire, because they have felt the Bern."

(2,760 posts)You disappoint me again, People Magazine

(7,770 posts)You can hear Bun B's and Fat Tony's reasons for supporting Sen. Sanders in their own words from the Billboard article in the OP. It has a 35 minute interview with the rappers. You only need to go 6 minutes in to hear why they feel voicing their support is important right now.
The People article has direct quotes from Killer Mike on why he's for Sen. Sanders.
How you missed the point of the articles has more to do with your reading comprehension than an omission of details by People or Billboard magazine.
p.s. They are not even telling folks to vote Bernie. They are just raising awareness of the Democratic primary process and the need for voices in the hip hop community (and elsewhere) to feel free to state their political views.

(6,154 posts)Call me old but endorsement with those names will scare off more votes than they will attract. Guess we'll have to concede the 'gangsta' vote to Bernie.
