Sanders' message, his campaign, and the resounding support he is receiving nationwide has sent chills through those whose primarily loyalty is to the wealthy donors in mansions and corporate suites and the policy architects on Wall Street
Gas-light-ing (gas-lighting) v. 1. a form of mental abuse in which information is twisted or spun 2. false information presented with the intent of making victims doubt their own perception and reality. Adj. gas-lit misled into accepting false information for the purpose of social control.
Perhaps youve noticed. Some people and institutions are working feverishly to convince us that real social change is not possible.
Their target is Bernie Sanders and the growing army of his supporters who are fed up with politics as usual and the grip of Wall Street and corporate America on our political, economic and social system.
The theme is to desperately convince us that Sanders cant win. They repeat it over and over, even though Sanders polls as well or better than Hillary Clinton does against every leading Republican candidate.

(17,796 posts)That's not so sure. Would she have large enough coat tails to help start changing congress? That's not so sure.
Would she continue to take wall street cash? That's pretty sure. Have a lovely evening.

(40,656 posts)this or their 'hater' threads. Anything that isn't pushing her forward in a positive way feels to me like desperation over defeat. Most of the polls don't poll people with cell phones and so all of the hoopla doesn't move me that she's going to win.

(1,309 posts)another would be- is electing Hillary and the continued choke hold the oligarchy has over the democratic party and our nation better than ridding our party of their neo-liberal, third way servants, like Hillary?

(4,711 posts)Kinda sad. "You can't win, why are you even trying? You should just give up. Why embarrass yourself?" Then the game actually starts and they get destroyed. It's gonna be delicious.

(24,411 posts)...and DU members understand that some of this is taking place on DU and on other sites.
Nonsense like this is only effective if people are unaware of the tactics.
Bernie's support on DU, since the beginning of his campaign in early 2015--has only increased in numbers and increased in depth. More people love him even more than they did 6 months ago, 3 months ago, etc.
I don't see any of this having any effect at all.

(23,156 posts)I'm so incredibly sick of the Clintonistas sagely assuring us that not only Bernie Can't Win, but Hillary is Assured to Win.
They are wrong on both counts.
And worse, they piss and moan constantly about how badly treated they are here.

(869 posts)do I have to repeat myself....he's a great guy the the green/labor/socialist movement needs local support across the nation...through people who are already elected representatives with a voting record...mayors, council members, state representatives...etc, etc.....and that is not there......because greens/labor/socialists....like to resist/protest/rebel/march/do petitions....but they don't like to run for positions in government....not that I blame them ...but that's the reality.....they don't major in government administration in school....and they aren't deep enough to embrace/tackle the big social issues that national candidates need to tackle ...and they don't have foreign policy experience...which is desperately needed in the current global climate....HRC does not have to "bend to corporate will" because she's not desperate like the GOP....so she can resist the influence....she's positioned well for this ...we don't have a TPP and we are likely never going to have one...we are off making separate deals with allies.....be more worried about the fact that even tho ford is making poorly designed electric cars....their carbon output (due to expanding chinese market) will still grow...tho they are trying to deny it just like volkswagon...(see npr interview it was pretty good) the corporations are doing a fabulous job of lying their asses off to protect and increase their assets while still polluting away.....the dems nixed keystone and there is oil sitting in ships on the gulf so much there is no where to store it....convince people to ride their bikes while the weather is warm....we will vote out the politicians that roll over for the NRA to the tune of almost 2.5 billion a year in medical costs....and increase wages while increasing the quality of health care...free community college....young people have the opportunity to have a 2 yr degree by the time their 18....for free....then go on to a four year after that....older workers can be retrained for free.....etc....HRC is pro labor....and is in a position where she doesn't have to be in the pocket of the corporations.....that's a great place for the president to be....she has the most foreign and domestic policy experience and the social ideologies while having the support to get things done in congress and the white house....we have a housing crisis....the hud director is rumored to be on the list of VP's that's very good we have more homeless than ever before....that's an example of a social issue that green/labor is not good with.....she is gaining more and more of the latino vote...(the most of any candidate) she has the african american vote for obvious reasons...those are civil rights issues that green/labor is not good with....right now she is reaching out to the muslim community as she should....it's the right time for it....(instead of saying she's going to bomb the crap out of the me and ban muslims like trump)....and she's good with working women....working mothers....green/labor is not.....there is no need to be desperate....Bernie is a valuable team member....I like green/labor values and will vote locally for greens if they are pro-choice,pro gun control....which HRC is.....I think someday the green/labor party could be a good party....it's just isn't there nationally.....it's something to keep working toward.....I don't think there's a need to be on the defensive...I think there is room for democratic socialism to grow....in the democratic party....as it's been growing that way for a while now.... cheers, Maggie

(23,156 posts)Ellipses are simply not the same. A huge block of text is so difficult to read, that hardly any one will bother. Plus, upon reading, your post simply is incoherent. Rephrased in ordinary English would be hugely helpful.

(11,945 posts)first as the Mayor of Burlington, VT, where he was re-elected three times, then as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, where he served until 2006 and was then elected to the U.S. Senate, where he currently serves?
Are you unaware that he has long been an Independent who caucuses with the Democrats?
Are you unaware that he is not a member of the Green Party, nor the Labor Party, nor the Socialist Party?
Do you realize that he has held elected office much longer than Hillary Clinton?
Perhaps you need to learn a few things about Bernie Sanders.

(869 posts)he has more regional appeal....he's been in the same job....HRC has been around...(education, then healthcare, then terrorism (9/11) then SOS....it's her "broad" (pun intended) and deep experience and number of years....it's true she's younger than Bernie .... Cheers, Maggie

Not saying you'll change many minds, certainly, but you're likely to get fewer readers just skipping your posts as near-unreadable telegraphy.

(8,573 posts)In order to fully experience the joy that is DU and avoid the embarassment of repeated criticisms, please format your posts in proper sentences using grammar and punctuation, and use the spellchecker feature if necessary to assure accuracy in spelling. The post to which I am replying is, quite frankly, a mess. Unreadable, it appears to be a Palinesque word salad rather than a coherent comment. Ellipses have a purpose and a place, but that place is not between every thought. That place is usually reserved for a period.

(869 posts)ms liberty I assure the typos are all mine (half asleep at the wheel) and the "stream of consciousness(ness)" entirely deliberate; this is my own "patented" invention of "digital speaking".....that is to say I want my posts to be distinctly "poetic prose" not an ideological manifesto....of fascist lockstep political action committee party politics.....further to be obviously genuine, unique and not a political car salesman trying to sell you a car ....but the independent intellectual think tank of philosophical political questioning.....not pac party cog in the wheel charlatanism? do you have a problem with that? Cheers, Maggie

(46,585 posts)So, there's that. Her favorables are underwater and she has no crossover appeal which gives her no coattails.
Bill Clinton advised Democratic candidates to turn their back on Pres Obama in 2012 (E.g. Alison L. Grimes who ended up getting less votes than Obama in Kentucky). Most of the candidates he supported in 2012 (only supporting those that endorsed his wife in '08) lost. And Hillary had every advantage in 2008 and pissed the nomination away.
The arrogant suggestion by Team Weathervane that only she can win is laughable.

(7,865 posts)I have noticed how desperate some of the Hillary people are to deny the possibility. It really is incredible how insistent they are that it is over and that Bernie stands no chance. Etc
Honestly they really should want to keep him in the race for a bit if only to draw public attention to Democratic discussions about policy and ideas. If she somehow manages to win instantly then there is no impetus for the media to discuss those issues and all of the questions will end up being framed around the policies of the Trump and the Trumpettes.
It might give you the primary but you sacrifice the election that way. Rather foolish really.
