(she'll lose to Bernie; if she does win, the base won't be enthusiastic; Republicans will drag themselves to the polls to vote against her), why are politically saavy politicians, who's job is partly to understand politics so as to get elected, not recognizing that she's a loser and endorsing Bernie instead? Why have so many white, black, hispanic, liberal and moderate elected officials thrown in with Clinton?

(22,308 posts)She has raised lots of money from her banker friends (among others) and lots of politically saavy people know how to get their slice of that pie. The pollsters and the media most of all.
The officials have thrown in because there is no down side. If she wins then they were aboard early and if she tanks they can switch to Bernie and look like king makers.

(3,366 posts)There's no downside to not endorsing Bernie. He's not vindictive.
But one does not endorse Hillary at his/her own peril... and that's whether she wins or loses.
Cute story about Claire McCaskill, who endorsed Obama, but not surprisingly is endorsing Hillary this time...

Yet even seven didnt seem strong enough to quantify the betrayal of some onetime allies.
When the Clintons sat in judgment, Claire McCaskill got the seat closest to the fire. Bill and Hillary had gone all out for her when she ran for Senate in Missouri in 2006. But McCaskill seemed to forget that favor when NBCs Tim Russert asked her whether Bill had been a great president, during a Meet the Press debate against then-Sen. Jim Talent in October 2006.
Hes been a great leader, McCaskill said of Bill, but I dont want my daughter near him.
Instantly, McCaskill regretted her remark; the anguish brought her to the point of epic tears, according to a friend. She knew the comment had sounded much more deliberate than a forgivable slip of the tongue. So did Hillary, who immediately canceled a planned fundraiser for McCaskill.

When asked why, according to the friends June 20, 1994, diary entry, Clinton said, Revenge.
