I won't pig pile on this Bernie Data Breach thingy.....

Honestly---I don't think it was a concerted effort by team Bernie.

But make no mistake about this---if it was the Hillary campaign that did it---the BS'ers here on DU would be rabid.

And he'd say the same thing if it was the other way around.

It's possible to be the people on the sidelines who don't resort to irrational arguments to score points.

Apparently they're doing a full audit, btw, so if it turns out some Clinton staffers curiously accessed Sanders or O'Malley data then everyone cheering about this is going to look stupid.

That takes it from "we were snooping" to "we were getting data." That's a firing offense. He may well not have been the one who did it personally but could have taken the fall for it.

Someone had to lose their job for downloading data.

DWS and her latest supposedly clever stunt have shown the DNC in all its ugly bias.

I for one, dearly hope DINO-Debbie has overplayed her hand with this one.

Look, people, in a week, I'm going to a thing where I'll be butting heads with Richard Viguerie, for Pete's sake. If the name doesn't ring a bell, look him up. He is the Prince of Darkness politically, and he sees me in the same light. Still, he pats me on the back, and we talk civilly about stuff, even politics. He and I are at ends of the spectrum so far from each other, it's hard to believe we're from the same planet. He knows full well where I stand, and the whole world knows where he stands. If we can sit at a table at breakfast and not toss crap like this at each other, you'd think people who all purport to be Democrats might make more of an effort to do likewise.

But I guess not. I refer to a post I made in the Spring of 2008: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=3369762&mesg_id=3369762

The attempt to make this someone else's fault is hilarious! Admit the guy screwed up and got fired! How much does that take? much easier than abusing all logic.

However, DU is, by and large irrelevant.

I firmly believe that, if the Hillary campaign had done that, the DNC would not have been anywhere near as punitive. Prompt firing the person responsible would like have settled the matter to DWS's satisfaction.

As it stands now, the DNC and the Hillary and O"Malley campaigns can access info that the Sanders campaign itself generated and fed into the DNC system, but the Sanders campaign cannot. That's bullshit.

Fri Dec 18, 2015, 10:35 AM

Snip
I wonder if anyone else Clinton or O'Malley made the effort to notify the software company about the bug to get it corrected.

In a statement, Michael Briggs, a spokesman for the Sanders campaign told the Guardian the issue was the result of systemic failures by NGP-VAN. “Sadly, the vendor who runs the DNC’s voter file program continues to make serious errors,” said Briggs. “On more than one occasion, the vendor has dropped the firewall between the data of different Democratic campaigns. Our campaign months ago alerted the DNC to the fact that campaign data was being made available to other campaigns. At that time our campaign did not run to the media, relying instead on assurances from the vendor.”

He added of Wednesday’s incident: “Unfortunately, yesterday, the vendor once again dropped the firewall between the campaigns for some data. After discussion with the DNC it became clear that one of our staffers accessed some modeling data from another campaign. That behavior is unacceptable and that staffer was immediately fired. We are as interested as anyone in making sure that the software flaws are corrected since mistakes by the DNC’s vendor also have made our records vulnerable. We are working with the DNC and the vendor and hope that this kind of lapse will not occur again.”

I don't think Sanders campaign workers were attempting to do anything "wrong". If this was Hillary's campign the level of hysteria would be deafening. If Hillary's campaign was suspended from data, there would be great joy.

For me, I want the suspension ended immediately--I'm assuming it's part of a protocol--but still, and I'm am one of the last people who would "stick up for" Sanders--even I think it's bullshit.

I have a huge problem with conspiracy theory politics though. These "Hillary did it" threads are tedious. Fortunately I don't have to participate.
