2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSeattle 500 Bernie Bumper Stickers - Zero Hillary Bumper Stickers Seen - Hillary Leading? Really?
I live in Seattle, and see a Bernie bumper sticker on one out of every 50 or so cars I see. Just a guess, but probably pretty close. Maybe it is 1 in 100. What I don't see is any Hillary bumper stickers. Not a single one. Zero passionate supporters for Hillary in Seattle.
Same with signs. I see Bernie yard signs all over the place, and not a single Hillary yard sign. Zero. None. Period.
Don't tell me Hillary has any kind of huge lead.
I think the polls are pure bullshit.
Every single person I know supports Bernie, even though they mostly all like Hillary as well.
Folks, we are being lied to.
Someone else thinks so.....
"Hillary Clinton does not lead the Democratic Primary!"

There is no way Hillary has anywhere near as many supporters in Seattle, or anywhere else as Bernie.
We are being lied to folks.
Obviously.

(15,438 posts)bumper-stickers and yard signs, though.
I, myself, never have bumber-stickers or yard signs. Neither do the members of my political group.
I don't know if I can say I "like the Clintons a lot". I just believe Hillary Clinton would make an outstanding successor to President Obama. She'll even have the clout within Congress to get more things done than President Obama was able to (although he did and continues to do an amazing job!) even though - IF she wins - she'll face the same - or worse - obstructionism than President Obama has had to cope with.

(24,324 posts)Oh, you mean ELECTION. Gotcha.
or. primaries,, I'm confused..
Anyway...
But, that still completely misses the point. Hillary was AHEAD then, right, in the primaries.? And Obama, with few bumper stickers came from behind to beat her.'
Now Hillary is again ahead but has FEWER bumper stickers. It is the guy behind with all the bumper stickers.
get it?
BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)Sometimes she was ahead. Sometimes he was ahead. But Obama then had more delegates than she did. There were, however, bumper-stickers and yard signs with Obama everywhere. In the end, they both won about 18 million votes, and it were delegates that broke the tie and broke for Senator Obama.
Sanders has two delegates, plenty of yard signs, plenty of bumper-stickers, even murals...but he has almost no support among minorities and other demographics in the Democratic Party. He has plenty of support among the fringe on the Left, like anarchists, communists, socialists, Greens, and Naderites, but they rarely if ever vote Democratic anyhow, and they won't win him the nomination. Democrats, by and large, don't have faith he's strong enough to go toe to toe against any Republican who wins the primary.
In 2012, no bumper-stickers, no yard signs...and yes, even a call from Sanders to primary him...but President Obama won re-election against all those odds and despite massive unfavorable news coverage...because of the minority vote.
Sanders will not win the nomination. Bookmark this post and should I be wrong, please rub it in my face after the primaries.

(130,533 posts)I have seen exactly one Hillary sticker. I haven't counted Bernie stickers, but I see several each time I go anywhere, along with several lawn signs. I have not spoken with anyone who admits to supporting Clinton; every Dem I know is a Bernie supporter. I hope it makes an actual difference; since Minnesota is a caucus state I'm expecting Bernie to make a good showing because caucuses draw more enthusiastic and committed supporters.

But to the election. Who knows what to make of the weighting of the polls and the assumptions as to who will vote? Who knows the depth and breadth of each partys turnout efforts? Among the wisest words spoken this cycle were by John Dickerson of CBS News and Slate, who said, in a conversation the night before the last presidential debate, that he thought maybe the American people were quietly cooking something up, something we dont know about.
There is no denying the Republicans have the passion now, the enthusiasm. The Democrats do not. Independents are breaking for Romney. And theres the thing about the yard signs. In Florida a few weeks ago I saw Romney signs, not Obama ones. From Ohio I hear the same. From tony Northwest Washington, D.C., I hear the same.
Of all people, Obama would know if he is in trouble. When it comes to national presidential races, he is a finely tuned political instrument: He read the field perfectly in 2008. He would know if hes losing now, and it would explain his joylessness on the stump. He is out there doing what he has to to fight the fight. But hes still trying to fire up the base when he ought to be wooing the center and speaking their calm centrist talk. His crowds havent been big. His people have struggled to fill various venues. This must hurt the president after the trememdous, stupendous crowds of 08. Votings the best revengerevenge against who, and for what? This is not a man who feels himself on the verge of a grand victory. His campaign doesnt seem president-sized. It is small and sad and lost, driven by formidable will and zero joy.
I suspect both Romney and Obama have a sense of whats coming, and its part of why Romney looks so peaceful and Obama so roiled.

(1,926 posts)The other guests freaked out. Why they asked him. With a straight face he said the Obama campaign had so much dirt on Romney they could easily destroy him. Only one person in the whole lead up to the election claimed this.
I think it is 100% true.
Romney made his money bankrupting companies, moving jobs offshore, and robbing people of their pensions.
Am I the only one that understands this? With a few ads, I wouldn't be.....

(101,852 posts)It was pretty clear that PBO was a 2-1 favorite by August of 012 though there were some shaky moments after the first debate. It's hard but not impossible for a Republican to win the White House when he or she is losing nine out of every ten black votes and seven out ten of Asian and Hispanic ones.

(42,674 posts)And while I occationlly see a Sanders bumper sticker, and-- less often a Hillary bumper sticker as well as (ugh) Trump ones, even a Ben Carson or two, no where near "500". Do you drive for a living? And nope to a whole lot of Bernie yard signs--I know of a couple in Wallingford, a couple in Fremont, none in my neighborhood whatsoever. Haven't seen any Hillary yard signs at all although mine is on its way.
On edit--it would surprise me not at all if the East side were to support Sanders

(1,926 posts)I don't see a lot of Bernie yard signs. Maybe 15 or so total, and I drive around some. I just haven't seen a single Hillary yard sign. 4 or 5 Trump bumper stickers. Not been able to give them a hard time. I would if there is an opportunity.
If I saw someone with a Trump bumper sticker I would probably say something like this: "So the bigger the asshole the better"? How about "How's that birther crap working out for The Donald"? I really don't treat Republicans like they are human beings. I f-ing hate them. Buncha traitors if you ask me.

I hear your sentiments and agree. I've seen quite a few Bernie bumper stickers, and one yard sign a couple of months back. I've seen maybe two Hillary bumper stickers. One supported her, the other said, "Hillary lied, people died." Anecdotally the grassroots campaign is alive and well. Clinton supporters don't seem nearly as enthusiastic.
Which reminds me... I've yet to grab any sort of bumper stickers/decals for my car.
