(86,008 posts)...my father died of the disease - lost him before he was really gone from us. We all lived together for about three years until it became too hard (on him and us). I look back on those years when I took care of my ailing dad as some of the best days spent of my entire life. Strange, I know, with such a tragedy unfolding, but for a brief time I was able to return part of the favor of raising me.
This is an insidious disease which robs families of loved ones while they're still relatively physically healthy, eventually ending in a devastating loss of essential body functions. It took four years until it killed my dad. This is something that holds promise and should be pursued with haste and with as many resources as we can apply.
