The Lost Soul Of Mitt Romney

snip//

While the Romney campaign chose to turn yesterday’s events in Cairo and Benghazi into a political opportunity by criticizing the Obama Administration for a statement issued by our embassy in Cairo earlier in the day (more on that in a moment), a check of Twitter and other communications sources reveals that, as of the time of publication of this piece, Governor Romney has not yet seen fit to so much as express his condolences to the families of Ambassador Stevens and the other Americans who lost their lives in service to their country. Now, if I’ve somehow missed Romney’ issuance of condolences, I’m sure that there are many readers who will gladly point this out. I, in turn, will be more than willing to correct the record if this is the case—however a close search of all sources reveals that no such statement has been forthcoming from the Romney camp.

The Romney condemnation—issued prior to official confirmation of Ambassador Steven’s death—stated, “I’m outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi. It’s disgraceful that the Obama Administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.”

These words were uttered at the time when the families of our fellow countrymen were being notified of the terrible fate that had befallen their loved ones.

Is this really how leadership works?

A leader waits until all the facts are available and the impact of one’s words can be more fully assessed. In speaking out before he was fully aware of the situation on the ground, Governor Romney chose the path of the impulsive politician rather that the road taken by a measured leader—and all in the quest of political gain.

snip//

I’m sure the irony of our Ambassador’s death at the hands of such a mob is completely lost on Governor Romney who has now cashed in the decency I have always ascribed to the man in exchange for his willingness to do anything—and say anything—if it helps him capture the prize he so intensely seeks. No doubt, the Romney campaign tells itself that trading their souls is the price they must pay for the greater good. No doubt, they convince themselves of some wisdom they find in speaking first and thinking later if that is what must be done to save the American people from themselves.

snip//

On behalf of a few of my fellow Americans who have behaved in an insensitive and inappropriate manner, I would like to apologize to the families and friends of my countrymen who died so tragically in Benghazi. I’m sure that if a presidential campaign was not clouding their judgment, they would have shown a bit more consideration, compassion and class.

At least I’d like to believe that this would be the case.

Heavy Metal is one of the favorite movies of my early teen years.

The scene I was actually thinking of was from the end of the movie 'Time Bandits'.

Here is that scene:

Why is it that some people on DU aren't satisfied to be proven right. They have to bash the person who admits to a mistake. No wonder some people end up refusing ever to admit mistakes or apologize for them.

Thinking of posting this at FB. High school classmate of mine, who has arranged for reunion (in couple of weeks,) 'likes' rmoney, + posts repug crap. I've not engaged her on politics; don't want to fight with her (or anyone) in that forum.

But as this is Forbes, should I post it? Won't 'dedicate' it to Jennifer, but maybe she'll notice and learn a thing or two.

Thoughts???

Tweeting "Obama sympathizes with the Egyptian attackers. sad and pathetic" He wrote this about the sitting President. As did Palin and Malkin. But Reince should be out of a job. Hope the media does not lose sight of that, too. He was extremely offensive as well.

That man is a bully and a complete disgrace to the GOP. He should apologize and resign. Take yourself back 11 years: can you imagine if a Democratic chairman said anything close about GWB? OMG, he would be crucified. Now, the GOP chairman accuses the POTUS of treason and no one notices...

took some longer to discover it than others.

Thanks to Rick Unger for pointing out that Willard didn't offer his condolences to the families.. like he didn't mention the Troops in his big ol acceptance speech.

Mitt Romney is acting like the enemy within..like he's a mole and not a very bright one.

This is just one more sad chapter to add to the story of the real Mitt. We've known of the escapades he had in school with the forced hair cut of his classmate. (And now he claims to not remember it.) We know how he has treated his kids by pushing their faces into the food, as a "joke". Real funny. We know how he treats the family dog. There is plenty of evidence from his past about his character and most of it stinks.

Most telling is how he treats the people that got fired when he was with Bain. Or later who lost their jobs when their plant closed. Mitt has no regrets, no remorse. It's just the cost of doing business and the pain he caused those people was considered collateral damage.

For the deaths that happened last night, there is no pain or sadness for Mitt. He simply saw the whole thing as another opportunity to appear Presidential. In other words, for Mitt, All is fair in love and war. Just the cost of doing business.

If this had to happen, thank goodness it happened NOW. The real Mitt has been shown and what we have is a shameless opportunist who doesn't even have the decency to make his move until AFTER the families of the dead have been notified. It should be enough to sicken every American with shred of decency. And even if they can't bring themselves to vote for Obama, even though Obama's handling of this situation has been stellar, then I hope they will just stay home in disgust.
