Heads-Up: 'Curious Choice of Auditor for Democratic Database Flap'

Curious Choice of Auditor for Democratic Database Flap
By ADAM KLASFELD - CourthouseNewService
Wednesday, December 23, 2015Last Update: 12:25 PM PT

(CN) - In selecting its auditor to study the security breach exploited by a campaign staffer for Sen. Bernie Sanders, the Democratic National Committee showed it has insouciance to spare.

Described as a corporate CIA, the Manhattan-based private intelligence firm Kroll counts big names like Goldman Sachs and Chevron among former clients. Bill Clinton's inclusion on this list might raise eyebrows this election, amid claims that the DNC is playing favorites with the frontrunner in the White House race.

The investigation stems from a software bug that brought down a DNC firewall for 45 minutes on Dec. 16, giving the Sanders campaign a peek at Hillary Clinton's outreach strategies in key battleground states.

DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz retaliated by suspending the Sanders campaign's access a crucial database vendor, NGP VAN, effectively grinding outreach efforts to a halt at the heart of the primary season.

Jeff Weaver, a campaign manager for Sanders, publicly accused the Democratic party of "sabotage" the next day, and Bernie 2016 slapped the DNC with a federal complaint Friday afternoon.

As the candidates made their way to New Hampshire on Saturday for the final Democratic presidential debate of 2015, they and the party seemed eager to put the squabble to bed.

And...

Echoing a comparison made by the New York Times and Sydney Morning Herald, Donziger called Kroll "a sort of private CIA for the powerful."

Though hardly a dispassionate voice on the matter, Donziger said he would not classify Kroll as an "objective investigations service."

The firm takes on clients who "have a very specific agenda that requires particular results to be produced regardless of the actual facts," Donziger said in an email.

Neither the candidates nor the Democratic Party would respond to email and phone inquiries about the court case or Kroll's probe.

The DNC has not released any information about the expected length and scope of the audit, or who was responsible for selecting Kroll to lead it.

WTC and Sears Tower security

Kroll were responsible for revamping security at the World Trade Center after the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.[16][17] They also took on responsibility for security at Chicago's Sears Tower following the September 11, 2001 attacks.[18] Just prior to the September 11 attacks, Kroll Inc., with the guidance of Jerome Hauer, at the time the Managing director of their Crisis and Consulting Management Group,[19] hired former FBI special investigator John P. O'Neill,[20] who specialized in the Al-Qaeda network held responsible for the 1993 bombing, to head the security at the WTC complex. O'Neill died in the attacks.

Pay particular attention to #14...

Fourteen Defining
Characteristics Of Fascism
By Dr. Lawrence Britt
Source Free Inquiry.co
5-28-3

Dr. Lawrence Britt has examined the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia) and several Latin American regimes. Britt found 14 defining characteristics common to each:

1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.

3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.

4. Supremacy of the Military - Even when there are widespread
domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

5. Rampant Sexism - The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.

6. Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.

7. Obsession with National Security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

8. Religion and Government are Intertwined - Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.

9. Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

10. Labor Power is Suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.

11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.

12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.

14. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

If the Kroll/DNC audit shows it was the Hillary campaign they'll just bury it.

It was in October 2015 that Sanders' campaign reported a security glitch in the software DNC was using to store proprietary campaign data.

"We were very concerned that large amounts of our own data was being downloaded and we contacted the DNC to remedy the situation," he said. "We talked to them and we were assured that this was going to be taken care of. But apparently they are not competent in terms of maintaining the security of their data between the campaigns."

The audit would determine who was responsible.

Come on people!

We all know this entire thing was a set up.

Did we really think that they would hire a firm that wasn't filled with their corporate henchmen buddies, who are known for producing pre-determined, concocted results?

What a joke!

More low-class shenanigans will only further galvanize Sanders supporters. These corrupt sociopaths serve to remind us how important it is that a good, decent, honest man like Bernie wins the democratic nomination.

Each candidate's auditor can oversee the entire process. Sen. Sanders, being the outcast, should especially have his own team overseeing the process.

Otherwise it's all bullshit.

Jason Mudrick is a hedge fund manager and the founder and current President and Chief Investment Officer of Mudrick Capital Management. who gave Clinton $2,700 in 2008 and 2016. And he managed to scrape up $50,000-$100,000 for the poor, cash starved Clinton Foundation.

That looks a little fishy for an impartial auditor, doesn't it?

97. Not to throw cold water on this outage party, but Sanders agreed to Kroll as auditors days ago
Thu Dec 24, 2015, 12:56 AM
Dec 2015

From an article dated 12/19, right after terms to restore access to the master list were decided:

As part of the agreement, the Sanders campaign agreed to an audit of its data, which will be carried out by corporate investigation firm Kroll, according to a Democrat familiar with the outcome. The Democrat also told POLITICO that the Sanders campaign had agreed to sign an affidavit attesting to the actions of its staffers during the data breach.

But I'm sure an established, respectable outfit like "Courthouse News" wouldn't resort to clickbait outage for page views...

Wait, how many recs does this thread have again?

119. Actually this ONLY says that Sander 'agreed to an audit of it's data", not to Kroll as auditor.

Dec 2015

After it says "agreed to an audit of it's data" there's a big fat COMMA, before continuing
"which WILL be carried out by .. Kroll" so technically this does NOT say Sanders
agreed to Kroll as the choice, or even that he knew who was going to do the audit, just that
he agreed to the audit.
