Samuel L. Jackson endorses Hillary Clinton

Actor Samuel L. Jackson said Sunday that he is backing Hillary Clinton for president next year because Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has no chance of winning the White House.

“I’m forever a Democrat, you know, and I’m gonna vote for Hillary,” he said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“I mean, I love Bernie — Bernie’s a man of the people — but he can’t win,” Jackson continued. "So I gotta cast my vote for a person that can keep those other people from winning, okay?"
Jackson argued that Clinton’s past political experience gives her a significant edge over other White House hopefuls from both parties.

“Hillary kind of knows the job — she can hit the ground running,” the movie star said of the Democratic presidential front-runner. "She doesn’t have a huge learning curve like [President Obama] had or some other people had.”

“Hopefully she can open up the skeletal files on these do-nothing assholes that go to work like four times a year and not vote on things and threaten them with whatever she and [former President Bill Clinton] uncovered on them years ago and make them do something and we can get something done.”

Bernie has a broad appeal because his message is honest, and so easy to understand. Same message for rich poor black white old young left right. It's resonating in surprising places. Like many, I think it comes down to a contest between Truth and Lies.

People have an inner radar for honesty. My opinion. Whoever gets R nomination ought to be easy to beat on that basis, as they are all chronic liars, and it's easy to prove. Bernie could dismantle any of them.

Also, recent history tells me that Republican hatred of HC is much greater than fear of Socialism. They will vote in droves.

Bernie trusts people, gives them credit for being able to use common sense. He is focused on the common good. Even blind people can see this.

Jackson has said that he chooses roles that are "exciting to watch" and have an "interesting character inside of a story", and that in his roles he wanted to "do things [he hasn't] done, things [he] saw as a kid and wanted to do and now [has] an opportunity to do".[120] Throughout the 1990s, A.C. Neilson E.C.I., a box office tracking company, determined that Jackson appeared in more films than any other actor that grossed $1.7 billion domestically.[121] For all the films in his career, where he is featured as a leading actor or supporting co-star, his films have grossed a total of $2.81[122] to $4.91 billion[123] at the North American box office, placing him as the seventh (as strictly lead) or the second highest-grossing movie star (counting supporting roles) of all time; behind only that of voice actor Frank Welker. The 2009 edition of The Guinness World Records, which uses a different calculation to determine film grosses, stated that Jackson is the world's highest grossing actor, having earned $7.42 billion in 68 films.[124

What distinguishes a two bit actor from an accomplished thespian and can you please demonstrate the nexus between a person's wealth and his or her choice of candidates?

Thank you in advance for answering my two questions .

Donald Trump would cut Samuel L Jackson's taxes, a lot. If his vote was primarily an economic one why isn't he supporting Trump?

As I feel it is important. You say you never heard of him. In under four minutes you made claim to his talent and character. The only possible way to do that in under four minutes is from appearance alone. What is it about his appearance that brought such negativity out in you?

Completely fair question considering your two posts.

"I mean, I love Bernie — Bernie’s a man of the people — but he can’t win,” Jackson continued.

I lost all respect for him a long time ago and this just seals the deal

The shootings at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., have stirred up a slew of gun-control sentiment in Hollywood.

But an actor who stars in perhaps the most gun-heavy movie of the season says that an abundance of firearms in this country isn't necessarily the problem, and that reducing them isn't automatically the answer.

"I don't think it's about more gun control," said Samuel L. Jackson, who stars as a conniving house slave in Quentin Tarantino's upcoming revenge fantasy "Django Unchained." "I grew up in the South with guns everywhere and we never shot anyone. This [shooting] is about people who aren't taught the value of life."

Tell that to a parent who has lost a child to gun violence...

69. The only reason he gave for supporting Clinton
Mon Dec 28, 2015, 09:14 PM
Dec 2015

is that he thinks Bernie can't win the White House in the general election (which is a silly notion). He didn't say anything about he ideas and policies being the determinant and I think the Hillary supporters clapping and cheering this endorsement should note that fact. What Samuel L. is offering is a bandwagon endorsement, or something like "I'm a Panthers fan because they're 14-1 and appear likely to do well in the playoffs".

If Bernie wins the nomination, Samuel will being voting for him.

Telling me he was at MLK's funeral isn't telling me anything about where his mind is today. I'm sure there were people at the funeral who were secretly glad King was dead, but they'll be the first to say they were there today.

Samuel L. just seems like the kind of guy who's going to be for whomever he feels everyone else is for. Like I said to another responder, he's not on the same level as a Danny Glover or Harry Belafonte - Samuel L. plays it safe. I think his heart is in the right place but if he's supporting Hillary and agrees with her positions historically on the issues (before she changed them), then I definitely question his level of consciousness.

First, being an usher at Dr. King's funeral is a little more than him "being at MKL's funeral" ... But more, you continue to make a judgement on the man's "consciousness" without ever having met him; but rather, because he has endorsed a candidate that you have never met ... that is laughable, if it weren't so sad.

116. We make judgments about people
Tue Dec 29, 2015, 06:16 AM
Dec 2015

everyday based on the information available on them and the way our own life perspective shapes our interpretation of that information. I, like anyone else, am allowed to form my own opinion of someone just as much as you are. We make the same judgments about elected officials every election cycle (people we've never met), so let's not play games and pretend as if I'm doing something intolerable.

I told you why I don't think Samuel L. is a very conscious dude, and you can accept it or not, that's your prerogative. Your problem with my critique of him is because you're a Hillary fan and I'm poo-pooing his celebrity endorsement. And if you think my critique is showing signs of sanctimony, then I'll admit to that criticism (especially the part about saying the n-word so much).

Or maybe you're taking my criticism of Samuel L. a little too personally?

You are pretty poor at reading the available information ... I am NOT a HRC fan or supporter (though I will vote for her, should she be the nominee) and I don't give a much (any) weight to celebrity endorsement, and have said so repeatedly.

I just have a problem with people making moral judgments about people they have never met based on their celebrity personas ... it is shallow and sanctimonious.

Have you encountered him when he was NOT on camera? He is very active by a list of the groups/charities/organizations that he supports ... and, oh yeah, he seemed pretty "conscious" to me, when after the round of golf I referred to earlier, he stopped a drunk guy from harassing a waitress and when he asked why there were so few Latinos and Native Americans on the resort staff.

94. Of course I haven't encountered Samuel L. when he's not on camera
Mon Dec 28, 2015, 11:24 PM
Dec 2015

but I can judge from what he says and does on and off camera to determine his level of consciousness.

By looking at how conscious he is, I'm not talking about how "active" he is in his charities and other things. I'm talking about how deeply he's looking at the issues, if he's really digging below the superficial information that is peddled on our mainstream media, if he's really seeing the broader, more expansive picture than what is painted for us by the NYT and CNN. I've always felt that he was "down" to a certain extent, but it was only shallow. Compare Samuel L to someone like a Harry Belafonte, Muhammad Ali, Danny Glover, or even a Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and I think you can see what I mean that he's not quite on that level of consciousness.

Plus, any Black man who'll agree to say the n-word a hundred times in his movies can't be very conscious - that has always bothered about him (and any other Black actor of celebrity who does).

Yes, and as long as she keeps repeating that this election is about her and Trump, people will jump on the bandwagon.
That's probably why Hillary supporters keep repeating polls, over and over again. They want us to jump on the supposed bandwagon. In other words, "Get in line."

Republicans have been known as the Party whose voters normally "get in line". This year things are different. Jeb can't even get out of the starting gate.

Remember how many people were saying "No way!" to a Bush vs Clinton election? Republicans have so far rejected "establishment politics". Dems are still insisting that we get in line behind the establishment candidate. We'll see what happens.
