Samuel L. Jackson golfing anecdote

Last edited Tue Dec 29, 2015, 10:46 AM - Edit history (2)

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/29/magazine/how-samuel-l-jackson-became-his-own-genre.html

One day, Jackson told me, Trump said to him, “My friend Bill might play with us next week, Sam.” Jackson said, “Bill who?” Trump said, “Clinton.” Jackson said, “Oh, yeah, I played with Bill last week in the Bahamas.”

Edit with my thoughts about this:

I read on another thread how it would "besmirch" the party to have Trump supporters vote for Bernie.

I suppose my point in this post is to show how people at the top are all schmoozing with each other, and how artificial the divisions among us regular people are. We're calling Trump a fascist. But Samuel Jackson and Bill Clinton golf with him?

It would be just as illuminating to post this at Free Republic. We know what they say about Obama, imagine what they say about Samuel Jackson, who was literally a Black Panther. But their straight-talking hero Trump is golfing with him?

So these people at the top are all hanging out, and we accept that. But Bernie tries to get some Trump people to vote Democrat, but we can't have that, they are unclean somehow.

Bernie. I think endorsements are interesting, but cannot recall having ever switched support for a politician or a brand of soda, or anything in between, because of an endorsement.

This is a more interesting charge than saying I am jealous of Jackson earning a living, though, there's that.
Shoot - Jamie Dimon is just earning a living. So am I. What the fuck does that have to do with anything? People who make movies I don't care to see are earning a living - doesn't mean I have to watch their movies.

This "under the bus" stuff makes me laugh, any more. Has become over-used and meaningless, unless one feels that an endorsement would really actually cause someone to switch support, regardless of actual issues. This is not like switching from Coca-Cola to Pepsi, because of Michael Jackson, ya know.

Jackson campaigned during the 2008 Democratic Primary for Barack Obama in Texarkana, Texas. He said: "Barack Obama represents everything I was told I could be growing up. I am a child of segregation. When I grew up and people told me I could be president, I knew it was a lie. But now we have a representative... the American Dream is a reality. Anyone can grow up to be a president." Jackson also said: "I voted for Barack because he was black. That's why other folks vote for other people – because they look like them". He compared his Django Unchained character, a villainous house slave, to black conservative Justice Clarence Thomas, saying that "I have the same moral compass as Clarence Thomas does".

I never played golf but I know people who do and they usually play golf with the same people, hence the appellation "golfing buddies" ?

Do you have any evidence that Mr Trump and Jackson are regularly paired together on the golf course?

Elsewhere in this thread I mentioned that Bill Clinton and O.J. Simpson played golf together. Would you consider them "golfing buddies" ?

Thank you in advance for answering my two questions.
