When the election rolls around it's absurd to imagine that every current Bernie supporter will stay home or vote for someone else. You may feel that you're leading a huge rally right now, but in six months you may find yourself wallowing in self pity and relative solitude when the movement evaporates.

Personally, I'll be proud to vote for Sanders if he manages to pull it off, but it doesn't appear likely. While I guess that means I have no ideals but perhaps I'm a loyal democrat. Shame on those who vow to help elect a republican just to spite a Clinton.

I think there is a group of poster on DU that "won't" voter for her, but mainly because they aren't really democrats. Sure they claim to be, but it's pretty obvious that some here have a different agenda than putting a democrat back in the WH. That being said, I do think the "real" Bernie supporters will vote for Hillary because they know that any republican running is going to be far, far worse at leading this country forward, and protecting the things we have gained since president Obama took office.

I know my candidate is a long shot, and I also know that whoever wins, I will vote for them in the GE. Those who keep pushing the idea, in one way or another, to not vote for Hillary, to not vote at all, or to write in Bernie's name if she is the nominee, are not really matters and should find another board that feels the same way as they do about NOT helping elect democrats.

They should get the same amount, but they won't. It is Bernouts who are just begging to sit out an election (like 2010 and 2014) because the candidate isn't pure enough.

They are the ones saying "if I don't get my unicorn, I'm taking my rainbow and going home!"

Bernouts need to learn a phrase:

Don't let the "perfect" become the enemy of the good.

I put perfect in quotes because Sanders is far from it, but their are a lot people who are following his pied piper routine.

Whether you like it or not, it's a fact that you need to consider. I will vote for Bernard in the general.

I will not vote for him in the primary.

But millions of moderates will not support his far left positions. Regardless of what his supporters say, republicans are not going to vote for him. Minorities are not going to turn out for him. These are all things backed by polling.

So, maybe, if your pretense is correct, that so many of the Democratic base is roiling with anger and hatred for money, capitalism, and the "establishment" he will get more votes (a pretense I reject as a complete and utter phallacy) from the Democratice base. That makes up 30% of the electorate. The other 70% is up for grabs and Sanders doesn't have the ability to sway them.

Bernie, as the polls are already showing, with the support of a majority of the unaffiliated and along with a majority of Democrats and even a minority of Republicans will easily win and have large coattails. Hillary can not win with just a majority of Democrats, she can't win even if every Democrat votes for her. But who cares, we will just blame it on the liberals again.

If Hillary wins the primaries and then loses the general I see the Democratic party shrinking to be even smaller than the Republican party. The exodus will be massive.

Hillary people understand that she DOES support raising the minimum wage, to the highest level that research supports. (The research conducted by the liberal economist at Princeton who first demonstrated that raising the minimum wage does not reduce jobs; whose research is cited by Bernie; except there is NO DATA for a raise as high as what Bernie is proposing.)

And Hillary supporters know that Hillary was lied to before the IWR vote, and that Ted Kennedy said he understood the votes of Democrats who voted yes, because they didn't haveaccess to the same classified documents that he did, as a member of the Armed Services Committee.

And Hillary people know that she opposes the Keystone Pipeline.

And on and on and on. She is nothing like the Rethugs on the other side, and Hillary supporters can see that clearly.

And yet the vast majority would be willing to vote for Bernie Sanders in the general because it's that important. Even if it sticks in our craw to vote for someone with his record on gun issues and his habit of making it appear that all issues are simple, black and white, with a one-size-fits-all solution.

So you are saying that Hillary supporters think she was duped into voting for the IWR because she wasn't given the right documents. My question is: As a sitting senator, would it not be her JOB to do the due diligence to ask questions before voting on a resolution that authorized a president to go to war?

I would rather hear that she made a mistake in voting for the IWR than the bullshit excuse that she was duped.

45. No one is "challenging" you to do anything.

It's always been a given that Democrats will vote for the Dem nominee in a general election. They do so either as a vote for a candidate they believe in, or a vote against the Republican alternative.

Apparently - on DU, at least - keeping a Democrat in the WH is no longer a "given", because some people think that it is somehow "principled" to not vote for the (D) if it's not their candidate of choice.

There is nothing principled about any Democrat contributing to even the remotest chance of a Republican being elected POTUS. There is nothing principled about putting one's individual desires above the needs of the citizenry as a whole.

If you believe that an HRC administration would act in exactly the same way as a Republican administration, perhaps you are simply too politically naive to know the difference.

No one here, or on any other political site, is "challenging" anyone to do anything. You want to vote for the (R), g'head. You want to write-in your candidate if he's not on the ballot, g'head. You want to sit out the election and pout, g'head.

The fact is that those of you who will do so amounts to a handful of people, in the great scheme of things. So no big whup.

And BTW, if you've looked at the polls, you must be aware that most of the population does not see Bernie in any "great political light" when it comes to who they want as the Democratic nominee, and the eventual president.

Hillary supported the Patriot Act and wants to get access to American's personal information.

Didn't we have enough of that spying on Americans during the Bush years?

and simply show their support for them.

The one that slays me the most is the way they cavalierly dismiss her opposition to single-payer, like that doesn't at the least represent 4-8 years of time wasted on achievement of that goal without her advocacy as POTUS.

If I was a HIlllarian, I'd say all that unnecessary human misery and deaths that occur as a result to our fellow citizens, is on her shoulders.

No she is not the same as the Republican freak that will win.

Most of your assertions are overgeneralization or exaggerations of Hillary's position.

57. If voters choose not to vote for Hillary Clinton in the Primary...
Tue Dec 29, 2015, 09:22 PM

...It's the fault of the candidate.

I recall the hollering, screaming, wailing and gnashing of the teeth when President Obama snatched Hillary Clinton's so called inevitability straight from her stronghold.

If Hillary Clinton loses, it won't be my fault, nor will it be the fault of any Democrat that holds their nose and votes for her in the GE if she is our nominee.

Ultimately, the only person responsible for losing an election is the person who lost.

Will I suck up and vote for her if she is our nominee? Yes, of course I will - but it will be with reluctance and little enthusiasm.

I can't stomach even a brief viewing of Freerepublic anymore, but they used to delight in calling her "Hitlery Klintoon." I was amazed that they thought that was somehow clever and inventive.
Is "Hillarian" supposed to be something in that same vein?

Spain, I think. I speak the language and it's an EU Schengen Area country.

I'm also in favor of making lists of her supporters and denying them refugee status as political undesirables. They will have made this mess by backing Clinton, let them stew in it.

they don't need my vote, they say...so I shall not give them my vote.

If Hillary wants my vote, she'll tell her supporters to STFU and then she can set about earning my vote by repudiating the DLC and Bill's economic legacy and policies. The only Hillary I'll ever vote for is one that has a come to Jesus moment and realizes Bernie is 100% right on economic issues and she's been wrong all along.

Tue Dec 29, 2015, 10:20 PM

I am working to get Bernie nominated. If that fails I will put my volunteer effort into other campaigns- but I will definitely vote for Hillary. While I clearly prefer Bernie, I view the good/evil gap between Bernie and Hillary as trivial compared to the good/evil gap between Hillary and any possible Republican nominee. Folks who can't handle less than perfect candidates need to put a whole lot of time/effort/money into supporting their preferred candidate in the primary. The only perfect candidate for office is the person you see in the mirror every morning and his/her name isn't on the ballot.

I live in Wisconsin so I've seen up close and personal what government by Tea Baggers looks like, and it's not pretty. I certainly disagree with Sec. Clinton on a number of things, but even at her worst, she's a gazillion times better than any of the assclowns that the other side is running.
