Bernie Sanders and Martin O'Malley To APPEAR At Family-Focused Forum

Democratic presidential contenders Bernie Sanders and Martin O'Malley will both speak at a January "Putting Families First Presidential Forum" hosted by two liberal community groups in Des Moines.

The event organized by the Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Action Fund and the Center for Community Change Action will focus on climate change, racial and economic justice and other issues that affect "communities who were left behind in the economic recovery," according to a news release. The progressive magazine The Nation is also a partner in the event.

The forum will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 9 at First Christian Church, 2500 University Ave. People who are interested in learning more about the event can visit

It's sponsored by grassroots activists whose goal is to push the candidates to field tough questions. It is unscripted and the activists focus largely on poverty and oppression. I wonder why Hillary didn't confirm?

What: Forum with presidential candidates, but not to hear their stump speeches – our grassroots leaders will be on stage demanding real solutions from the candidates. Senator Bernie Sanders and Governor Martin O’Malley are confirmed. Hilary Clinton has been invited. Dorian Warren, an MSNBC contributor, will moderate the forum and Rekha Basu from the Des Moines Register will be on stage with our leaders.

She'll take the hard questions from all us poor folk once she gets elected, honest.

from someone who truly knows the reality of poverty. You can bet there will be BlackLivesMatter protesters there, too.
