Bernie Sanders defends Obama’s expected crackdown on gun access

Vermont Sen. Bernard Sanders on Sunday defended President Obama’s anticipated use of executive orders to clamp down on firearms access.

“I would prefer that we could have bipartisan support, but the truth is Republicans are not interested in doing anything about gun safety,” Mr. Sanders said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I think the vast majority of the American people are horrified by the mass shootings that we have seen, they want action.”

Mr. Obama is expected to unveil this week a package of gun-control measures, including expanding instant background checks, despite heated opposition from Republicans and others who accuse him of overstepping his authority by bypassing Congress.

Mr. Sanders, an independent who represents a pro-Second Amendment state, has shown in the past less enthusiasm than most liberals for gun-control measures.

but so far glad that pres o is doing something and that bernie supports it

waiting for the "abuse of executive power" charges to be leveled at bernie but ironically not the prez who will institute said policies

When was the last time he was in any kind of executive position? That really isn't his thing.

I think it's good he is on board with this.

most likely it will come from wingers who will accuse obama of being a dictator and anyone who wants to implement this being one as well

looking forward to all the dems getting behind strong gun control, however it has to happen
