Related: About this forumIs Someone Worried? Clinton CALLS for 'Spirited Debate' With Bernie Sanders

In snowy Iowa, the race is heating up. With just three weeks until the caucus, Hillary Clinton took the gloves off to go after her Democratic challenger, Bernie Sanders - who is now neck-and-neck with her in the polls.
"I just have a difference with Senator Sanders. He has a different plan, Clinton said.
~snip~
Its a rare move for Clinton to call Sanders out by name during her prepared remarks, and is yet another sign her campaign is taking the Vermont Senator seriously as the race ratchets up. On Sunday, a new NBC/WSJ/Marist poll showed Clinton ahead of Sanders by just 3 points in Iowa. The same poll showed Sanders ahead of Clinton by 4 points in New Hampshire. Clinton's campaign has acknowledged that she is in for a tough fight in the early voting states. Last week, the campaign sent a series of fundraising emails about the tight polls, including one from their campaign manager Robby Mook with the subject line "nervous.

(41,101 posts)is she apparently pushed for a scaled back debate schedule. Four debates in Iowa last time around, this year, one, and that was two months ago. The other irony is her numbers have gone up every time she has shared a stage with Bernie.

In DUTCH it would be- "kwaadaardige vreugde" For Dutch words, one can usually take the German and just use few more consonants, if that is actually possible.. IN this case that seems not to be true.

(45,251 posts)in the 1980s. She had a nervous breakdown that was attributed to culture shock. I imagine being uprooted from family and friends played a role as well, but he did not mention that. ("Separation anxiety" is a term I've heard in connection for why some very brilliant kids can't hack living at school.) Ultimately, she returned to Ireland and they divorced.
I had never really considered that before hearing his story. Imagine what it must have been like for African Americans who were kidnapped from Africa to be slaves here, the Chinese who were brought here to lay railroad tracks and the like. Even early immigrants who came here eagerly because their countries were poor and suffering and the streets in America were made of gold (reportedly). Kind of mind boggling to imagine they could not even find ingredients for the foods they knew how to cook.

(5,141 posts)At one point my grandmother and her 3 sisters all moved to America. The other 3 returned and my grandmother wanted to but we were in such turmoil when my dad left that my grandparents felt they couldn't go bqck as they were the glue holding their grandkid's lives together. To this day, I feel terrible about that.
I can't imagine how immigrants, forced or otherwise, feel when they move country. I think that is why family groups end up moving to the same place-they're comfort for each other. And I totally understand the desire to go home again...hell I'm one generation removed from immigrant and I want to retire back "home" in Ireland...a goal that now looks more like necessity as the climate is much better for my illness.

But.....can you imagine how much joy their grandkids gave them? I am sure that far outweighed their desire to live in Ireland again. Besides, you were a child. Please forgive yourself, my dear dorkzilla, and let it go.

http://www.cnbc.com/2015/11/16/will-hillarys-clumsy-911-remark-come-back-to-haunt-her.html
Clinton's rivals wasted no time jumping on the comments as factually wrong and deeply insensitive. Former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley on Monday ripped Clinton, calling it "shameful" that the former secretary of state and New York U.S. senator linked 9/11 to her donations from Wall Street.
"I thought that moment, frankly, was pretty shameful. I don't believe that the people watching were applauding the notion that Secretary Clinton was pumping out this smokescreen and wrapping herself in the tragedy of 9/11," O'Malley said on CNN's "New Day" program. "I don't think they saw that as something appropriate to do, to mask her coziness and her closeness to Wall Street and all of the architects of the crash of 2008."

No need to make yourself a target and distract from her comments either!

(19,537 posts)And with those latest poll stats, it's also important to note that the percentages given for O'Malley support is also important, as it is likely that in m any caucus locations, there won't be enough O'Malley supporters to have a delegate represent them, and therefore many of them will be pressured to join a Sanders or Clinton delegation, or arrange an undecided delegation, where the majority of supporters in that delegation will likely nominate one of themselves who is closest to the candidate supported by the majority of voters in that delegation.
I have a feeling that O'Malley voters would be more likely to cross over to Bernie than they would Clinton. So, that could be a lot of upward potential for caucus support for Bernie that aren't even indicated by these polls, even if they are completely accurate now.
Volaris
(11,705 posts)Would effectively cancel the margin of error..those numbers seem more and more similar to each other as polls tighten up
And that would likely give Sanders wins in not only Iowa and NH, it would do very nice things inside the Nevada caucuses and put him within hitting distance in SC, 'firewalls' be dammned.
At least, that's my take on it

(96,882 posts)Both candidates are in the field, talking to and answering questions from voters. An artificial forum with questions from the "mainstream media" (that people here seem to hate) isn't essential.
cascadiance
(19,537 posts)... more by other voters and which are confined to just the voter who asked a question to a candidate that this media chooses to ignore.
Real debates make it harder for the media to screen out what they don't want to amplify and to report on what they do want to amplify.
I'd like it more if we could have some truly representative people of the people at large asking the questions in these "artificial forum" debates, so that we get more control of the questions getting asked (so not just Republican debate candidates are asked about the H-1B program for example). But at least having a forum like that where both candidates get a chance to respond to live questions, that a media controller doesn't have the chance to edit out or distort later is preferred over what you are describing which doesn't get heard by most Americans (or in the case of Iowa and New Hampshire, most Iowans and New Hampshire residents) helps us hear more what each candidate is really about with less censoring.
