Mega Millions madness

The drawing for what could be the single biggest lottery payout the world has ever seen resulted in these numbers March 30: 2-4-23-38-46, Mega Ball 23. A $640 million jackpot is up for grabs.

Lottery fever spread across the United States on Thursday with people in more than 40 states buying tickets for the Mega Millions jackpot that has reached an all-time record of $500 million, officials said. I live in Lawndale, CA. We are a small suburb south of Inglewood and west of Gardena on the wrong side of the railroad tracks from the wealthier neighborhoods of the "South Bay" area of Los Angeles. People line up at this liquor store because someone once before won big buying tickets at it and so they think its got a leg up on the competition. From approximately 3-6 P.M. today there was a news helicopter overhead taking video of the lines.

So many people are deluded that they'll throw hundreds of dollars at something they don't have a chance in Hell of winning. This country has lost it's damn mind if this is leading news. This is the Cult of the 1% at its worst.

1. A winning ticket was sold in Baltimore County, MD.

Don't know about other states yet but at least 1 person is celebrating, freaking out or most likely a mixture of both.

2. I spent $5.00

I used to do lotto pools at work, and we would have $100.00 or so, and sometimes we wouldn't win anything. Never won the big one. I find no harm in spending $5.00.

4. Thanks for that video, perfectly in line with my views.

The lottery is a poor regressive tax.

8. That is not the point.

It's fine if folks dabble and consider gambling a form of entertainment I suppose ... but when most of the country is making peanuts while a handful of billionaires own everything you've got to consider that maybe the economic system isn't working for most. I find these photos of lottery ticket buyers very depressing.

7. CNN now reporting that winning tickets were also sold in IL and KS

So there are AT LEAST 3 winners--so far...
