Said to Lady Journos

This blog was created by a female journalist for other journalists to list out (anonymously) sexist remarks that have been said to them. Here is a sampling of the first page:

“We can talk about politics and journalism and how nice it is to look into your eyes.”

A middle-aged man to a journalism student

“What up, buttercup?”

Police spokesman on reporter’s

(Submitter’s note: I still have it.)

“If you have dinner with me, I won’t sponsor any education legislation for a year.”

State representative to an education reporter

“Is your boyfriend well-endowed? Come on, lighten up. I’m just trying to get to know you better.”

HR director during a job interview.

(Submitter’s note: I refused to answer, and, needless to say, did not get the job - but went on to have a long career at another newspaper.)

“You didn’t ask for my contact info to get my number?”

A bicyclist to a student reporter

“Tell me, does the carpet match the drapes?”

Drunk man to a reporter at a parade

“You’re way too cute to be doing this. It’s too easy for you to get guys to agree to be in your pictures.”

A old man to a female photojournalist in Michigan

“Tell me, does the carpet match the drapes?”

shit like this. this is what we battle. and men on du dont "get" why it is offensive.

hey, they are not that stupid. they get it. and why they do it. but, they do pretend.

An HR director said this?

HR should know better. If HR is making comments like that, I can't imagine they take sexual harassment complaints seriously. If I heard an HR director make a statement like that I would say, "This is clearly not a company I want to work for," & I would leave.

What's really sad is the number of men who don't even give a second thought to how demeaning those comments are. And a number of women, too.

5. Yep, to some, this is 'little stuff' that women should either 'get a sense of humor' about

or just accept as a battle that we shouldn't choose.

Isn't it so very kind of them to be looking out for us poor little easily outraged wimminz with our tiny ladybrains, unable to figure out for ourselves what's important and what's not?

we work hard with our children to create an atmosphere that is positive to help them along in their journey. yet with so much shit, we pretend it does not have any effect.

odd thinking.
