Life-Sized Barbie Dreamhouse Comes With 'Occupy Dreamhouse' Protest

Developers are in the process building a 26,900 square foot, interactive, mostly completely pink Barbie Dreamhouse For Humans in Berlin. If you were the Barbie type, this is probably your childhood dream come true. If you were the anti-Barbie type, then fear not! Because the Dreamhouse gives life to all dreams. Your anarcho-feminist childhood fantasy of fucking shit up at Barbie's mansion has also been given life: German feminists are planning an "Occupy Barbie Dreamhouse" protest at the grand opening of the shrine to traditional girlhood, on May 16.

Everyone knows that "virtual cupcakes" are the best thing to "eat" before setting foot on a Barbie Fashion Runway. Classic Barbie™, promoting healthy body image in young women.

“For 22 euros ($29), you can have two careers — model or pop star! What kind of image is that presenting to young women?” wonders Michael Koschitzki, the proudly feminist male leader of the Dreamhouse opponents.

In response, a spokeswoman from Mattel Germany said, "Barbie has again become a tool for some to advance their own agenda."

And, certainly, the Occupy Barbie Dreamhouse organization has a far-reaching agenda. From their Facebook page:

Q: WHAT HAPPENS AT THE FASHION RUNWAY AND ROCKSTAR STAGE?

A:The Fashion Runway activity includes model-training, make-up / hair styling, the opportunity to select an outfit and strut down the Barbie™ Runway. The Rockstar Stage activity includes choreography and performance training, the opportunity to select an outfit to wear for a performance on the Barbie™ Rockstar Stage.

From the Jezebel article:

What does that have to do with Barbie Dream House? According to the organization, the Barbie Dreamhouse harmfully represents domesticity as an integral part of femininity, and once that "cliché role is strengthened in childhood, [it] runs through the whole life."

Not only domesticity as an integral part of femininity -- also appearance, sexxxxxxxxxxiness, and a ridiculous caricature of female anatomy.

My mom flat out would not let a Barbie in the house when I was young because as she said, Barbie is a "poor role model".

And the pink frou-frou crap pushed relentlessly at young girls now is way worse than it was when I was growing up in the late 60's/early 70's.

I would Occupy the shit out of that if it were anywhere near me.

Young girls looking for a positive role model in Pixar's animated adventure "Brave" will soon find a much slimmer, prettier version. The film's star, Merida, will soon be officially dubbed a Disney princess. She has gone under the Disney knife and has been given a skinnier waist, higher cheekbones and a liberal supply of hair conditioner, making her more Barbie than Artemis. No longer the frizzy and fiery protagonist that both girls and boys identified with, the new Merida has come under fire by parents who prefer strong female protagonists with a more earthy look. There's even an online petition asking Disney to please keep makeup and liposuction away from the feisty Scot.

We can't be having any strong female protagonists that look like real girls as roll models. Young girls need to be taught to lose weight, embrace plastic surgery and spend fortunes on their hair.
