Sheriff’s Police Arrest 65 In Domestic-Violence Sweep

(CBS) – Cook County sheriff’s police fanned out to arrest domestic-violence suspects in what the authorities call a “Mother’s Day surprise.”

...

Up rickety stairs, in narrow gangways and alleys and in houses and apartments, the sheriff’s department was on a mission this week.

“We’re trying to send a message that domestic violence will not be tolerated in Cook County,” says Robert O’Neill, assistant director of the Central Warrants Unit.

With that in mind, dozens of heavily armed officers over four days converged on the last known addresses of 90 suspects.

around. and then we have this:

For Stanley Lofton, it was his 61st arrest. Sheriff’s police said Ronald Skipper was arrested for the 57th time; his rap sheet includes offenses such as rape, burglary, drug- and weapons-related offenses and attempting to disarm a police officer.

what in the HELL were these two doing out of prison?

and "sheriff's "police"?? isn't it usually "sheriff's deputies"? or is it different in cook county?

in Castro's history are chilling. If such brutal crimes were treated more seriously, perhaps those three girls in Cleveland would have been spared a decade of horror.

It is refreshing to see some police take domestic violence more seriously. Too often law enforcement treats such cases as trivial and inconvenient, even though they can escalate to murder or murder/suicide. Some of the most horrendous stories we've heard, could have been prevented if early reports of domestic violence had been treated as real crimes, punishable by prison time.

I love Kamala Harris for this.

In my opinion, there just are not enough prisons for all these violent men. There simply are not, so they are let free to maim and destroy lives.

they become bolder and bolder. Many of the abusive men I've known would have stopped if they had been held accountable in the beginning. They are often like children who are not disciplined for their actions, so they keep pushing their boundaries. That is when society is expected to set limits and provide consequences to those who cannot or will not abide by society's rules.
