Erick Erickson: Female Breadwinners Are Antithetical To Nature

After Pew released a report yesterday that found mothers to be the sole breadwinners in 40% of American households with children, Fox Business aired the study Wednesday evening, and several Fox contributors, all men, expressed their dismay at the findings.

Host Lou Dobbs called the Pew report further proof of "society dissolving around us," and Juan Williams blamed more breadwinning mothers for "the disintegration of marriage."

Erik Erickson, editor-in-chief of RedState, continued the lament,... “I’m so used to liberals telling conservatives that they’re anti-science. But liberals who defend this and say it is not a bad thing are very anti-science. When you look at biology — when you look at the natural world — the roles of a male and a female in society and in other animals, the male typically is the dominant role. The female, it’s not antithesis, or it’s not competing, it’s a complimentary role.”

Republican males (among others?) are trying to co-opt science it would seem... via the mechanism of an absurd rationalization that is less science and more bullsh*t by implying a natural co-dependence in the home which doesn't exist except through the imaginations of people.

women it was their duty to go to work in the munitions factories and ship yards.
When we didn't need what they were making we told them it was their duty to give those jobs to returning men.
I read that some women made good money and supported the family while the men were off to war.
I think that we can make up any excuse we want to tell women how to act. If I were a woman I'd say go fuck yourself literally.

I've been happily divorced for 28 years and if nasty punks like Erickson had their way, I'd never have saved a single life as a nurse, I'd be dead from trying to live with an alcoholic or from starvation on the street.

What I suggest Erickson really means is that he can't function in daily life without an unpaid maidservant to prop him up.

I have plenty of male friends, but I am happily single. Half of my problem has always been finding men like these commentators who are threatened by female independence!

And yes, I know there are plenty of good men out there who welcome and admire female independence. I just haven't developed a romantic relationship with any like that.

It bugs me to no end when I reconnect with old female friends and the first words out of their mouths are, "So, are you seeing anyone?" As if my whole life has to be defined by whether or not I have a man!

It will be a happy day when sexists, misogynists, and defenders of the status quo (or worse, people like in the OP) stop using these ideas to try to make their idiocy sound less idiotic.

I mean he has MS and can't work, perhaps I should toss away 20 years of marriage. Should I find someone to support me? Of course, since he runs the household pays the bills, gets the lawn mowed, gotta awesome loan modification, drives me to and from work, found a used hot tub in great shape that I will be enjoying next week, does everything and anything he can to make my life happy and comfortable, I suspect he's, well, an irreplaceable jewel.

If only all those women would get out of the workforce, it would open up a greater opportunity for us men. Lord knows we have enough to deal with these days, but having women as bosses, blocking our promotions, is too much.

But other than most primates, and a few other animals, many animals actually can be quite dependent on the females of the species. Some of our own human ancestors used to be the same way in prehistoric times, even!

Are Republicans trying to turn us into proverbial glorified chimps? I fear so, my friends.......
